Our girl Lottie was wanting to cook her mini-me's a little longer ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿณ and decided not to push.. resulting in our amazing Vet, Charlotte, performing a caeseran section on her. We welcomed some gorgeous puppies and mum did absolutely amazingly during and post anaesthetic โ€“ caring for her newborns the minute she was able to โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿฉน. Well done Lottie, the team are so proud of you ๐Ÿฅฐ and Lottie's mum and dad for the sleepless nights! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Yesterday evening we were able to help Hedgehog Emergency Rescue, Bingley Yorkshire HERBY when they put out a call for some lamb colostrum for little Betty whose mum was killed on the road. You're in good hands with Steph at HERBY. Hoping this little one makes it ๐Ÿ™โค๏ธ

Very happy to have found Penny the hedgehog in Otley today. Thank you Prickly Pigs Hedgehog Rescue.

As part of Hedgehog Awareness Week, they have hidden 500 hedgehogs around Otley to represent the 500 hedgehogs they care for in the rescue each year. Each one is named, underneath, after a hedgehog that has been in their rescue.

Penny will taking pride of place on my dash board and travel with me on my visits, thank you ๐Ÿฆ”๐Ÿ’•.

EDIT - He's been reunited now, thanks for sharing โค๏ธ

I've found this gorgeous little boy in Baildon. He has a chip but unfortunately the company it's registered with is closed ๐Ÿ™„.
He doesn't have a collar or tag.

If anyone has lost this sweet boy, please get in touch. Proof of ownership will be required.
Thanks so much to the lovely young man called Jack who helped to catch him.

I've changed my page name from Put To Sleep At Home to the same as my website vets.
It's still me, Charlotte providing home euthanasia visits and still proudly independent.

It's taking a lot of time running two pages and sometimes there's confusion when people tag me, so I thought it would easier to eventually combine the two pages, thanks for your understanding ๐Ÿ’•

Most pet owners know chocolate is poisonous to pets, but as a vet, it's surprising how many cases of chocolate poisoning I still treat.
Most of these aren't intentional. Let's face it, as lovely as our pets are, most are opportunists, (dogs ๐Ÿถ, ๐Ÿ‘€ I'm looking at you ๐Ÿ‘€).
If you leave Easter eggs where they can get them, they're going to eat them. Chocolate is just as delicious to them as it is to us (except cats, they can't taste the sweetness of chocolates so are less likely to be tempted to eat it).
Unfortunately, unlike us humans, most mammals can't breakdown the Theobromine and caffeine that chocolate contains and so chocolate is poisonous to them.

Symptoms usually occur 4-24hrs after ingestion and can include:

*vomiting,
*diarrhoea,
*hyperactivity,
*muscle tremors,
*increased heart/breathing rate,
*Seizures and even death in serious cases.
โš ๏ธPlease don't wait until you see symptoms, contact your vet immediately if your pet has eaten anything on this list.

How much is too much?

That depends on the type of chocolate eaten and the weight of the dog.
Smaller dogs are more at risk.
Dark bitter chocolate contains more theobromine making it highly toxic eg cocoa powder and unsweetened cooking chocolate. Then it's dark, followed by milk and white chocolate is less dangerous. It can still cause illness because of the high sugar and fat it contains, leading to stomach upset and in severe cases, pancreatitis.
If your pet eats chocolate, please contact your vet immediately with the amount they have eaten and the type of chocolate. They will be able to guide you and might recommend immediate treatment.
Remember, no matter how much your dog gives you their puppy dog eyes ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ‘€, please don't let them have any chocolate. Small amounts everyday can cause repeated theobromine exposure and can lead to them developing a heart condition - cardiomyopathy.

โš ๏ธ Hot cross buns and Simnel cake ๐Ÿฐ
These contain dried fruit and can cause vomiting/diarrhoea and kidney failure.

โš ๏ธDiabetic Chocolate ๐Ÿซ
Diabetic chocolate contains Xylitol which can lead to hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and liver failure. Both of which can be fatal.

โš ๏ธSpring bulbs๐ŸŒท
Daffodils, Narcissus, Hyacinth, Tulip and bluebell bulbs can all cause vomiting and irritation to the mouth if eaten.

โš ๏ธSpring flowers ๐Ÿ’
Lillies can be fatal to cats ๐Ÿฑ. There is a high mortality rate if not treated promptly. Cats not only ingest pollen directly but also when grooming pollen off their fur.

If you have any concerns, contact your vet immediately.

Please keep your pets safe and have a Happy Easter ๐Ÿฅš๐Ÿ‡๐Ÿฃ๐Ÿ’
