⚠️ HEATSTROKE ⚠️

🔴A serious condition that occurs when an animal’s body temperature rises to very high levels.

🔴Exercising your dog in warm weather, including gentle walks, and leaving your dog in a hot car are common causes.

🔴Signs of heat stroke include:
* Panting at rest
* Lethargic or reluctant to move
* Drooling
* Dark red or pale gums
* Staggering or uncoordinated movement
* Seizures
* Collapse

🔴Heatstroke is dangerous
A sustained high body temperature causes organ damage - the longer a dog is hot, the higher the risk of serious complications or death.
This is why immediate cooling is essential

🔴How to cool a dog:
✅Use water - any temperature - cool, cold, or very cold
✅Act fast - begin cooling immediately, don’t wait until you reach the vet
✅Pour water over them or use a hose
✅Move them into a shaded area with air flow (fan, breeze, air conditioning)
✅Offer water if they are alert enough to drink
❌Do not wrap them in wet towels- this can trap heat

🔴Prevention is crucial
* Avoid walks in warm weather - even short ones
* Keep pets cool indoors in shaded, well-ventilated spaces
* Never leave them in cars, conservatories, or caravans
* Provide access to water at all times
* Be cautious when travelling - delays and lack of ventilation can be dangerous

Rabbits & Small Furries🐰
❌Do not lock them in hutches with no escape from the heat
✅Provide them with cool frozen bottles, shade, ventilation, escape from the heat and plentiful cool, fresh water

🔴Dogs at higher risk:
* Brachycephalic breeds (Bulldogs, French Bulldogs, Pugs)
* Older dogs
* Dogs with underlying health conditions
* High risk breeds = Chow Chow, Bulldog, French Bulldog, Greyhound, Cavalier, Golden Retriever, Springer Spaniel

🔴Fast action can be the difference between life and death
