Fergus had just been on his walk charging around, playing ‘find it’ and generally having the time of his life. By the end he was heavily panting and this video shows him as he’s starting to come back down during rest. I wouldn’t give water (or food) to him at this moment.

Why?

It can increase the risk of GDV (Gastric Dilation Volvulus) which is where the stomach fills with air and twists. It’s life threatening.

What do I do instead?

Wait for the dog’s breathing to come down to a normal rate and then offer small amounts of water.

I give them a few seconds to have a small amount and then take the bowl away for a few minutes. Then repeat.

Tag someone who would benefit from knowing about GDV 🐾

It is with great sadness that I’m typing this but Paddy, the most gentle boy, has gained his angel wings.

Him and Molly were inseparable and it doesn’t feel the same walking Molly without him 😔 I’ll miss his curled tongue poses and big soppy eyes so much.

Thank you for our wonderful time together Pads, rest peacefully 💔💙
