The Rhodesian Ridgeback
Rhodesian Ridgebacks were developed in Southern Africa to help farmers keep the lions at bay. They are brave and athletic, dignified and strong willed, fiercely loyal, very loving, aloof with strangers, and very sensitive. They can jump a 6’ fence, but somehow can’t jump into your car boot... They can swim and wade in the murkiest water, but wont walk in a puddle... Man they can even hunt lions!... but are scared of flying leaves! What a breed!
Here’s my story...
I first discovered the Rhodesian Ridgeback (aka Lion Hound) back in 2008, in the school car park after dropping the kids off. I was returning to my car when out of somebody’s boot jumped the most magnificent dog I’d ever set my eyes on. His name was Yogi, and he was a gentle giant. I immediately fell in love. But it wasn’t until 2013, 18 months after I’d been diagnosed with breast cancer that we decided now was the time for a new member of the family, so along came Nala. She’s been an absolute dream, and helped me through remission. She became my soul mate. But oh no, as previously warned, 1 Ridgeback just wasn’t enough, so then came Django, and together they both continue to help my emotional recovery. They were sent to me by the angels.
Through my dogs I’ve met many Ridgeback owners who became great friends and gave me inspiration to make these beautiful collars. They are bold and bright, strong and durable (a bit like me!), and show off each dog’s individual character. I’ve had great fun making them, and love each one I make. I hope you like them as much as we do!
