Rainy Day Reminder

Just thought I’d share a little reminder for all my regulars (and a quick note for any new customers too).

Walks will still go ahead on wet days like today — the only time I’ll ever cancel/shorten walks is if the weather makes it unsafe for the dogs (or me) - we live in Cumbria after all, so days like today are a plenty! 😵

Please make sure your dog has a raincoat left out (if they wear one) and a towel by the door for a quick rub-down when we return.

I do carry towels, but on days like today I go through a lot — so an extra towel waiting at home is always appreciated.

If your dog doesn’t have a coat, please keep in mind they’ll likely come home very wet - I can only do so much with a towel. If you prefer they don’t wander through the house, just let me know where you’d like me to leave them.

No photos will be taken in very wet weather.

And finally, if your dog really isn’t a fan of the rain, please cancel their space — it’s not fair on the others if one dog refuses to walk and I totally understand - we can always re arrange for another day if I have the space.

Thank you so much for your understanding.

Claire x

A question for Maryport locals/ Maryport lovers ...

What do you (personally) call this stretch of land next to the sea, running from the harbour all the way to Flimby?

I’ve lived in Maryport for twenty years and still haven’t found a name for it. One of my customers once told me it was called 'The Bentz', but I’ve never really heard anyone else use that name?

Answers on a postcard 😄

It’s actually one of my favourite local walks with my own dogs, but I don’t often take my walking groups there, especially in Summer, since it can get quite busy. But today, with the rain keeping most people away, I decided to do three out of four of my walks there — the dogs loved it (and I did too ☺️).

I had a trip off to Newcastle today, which meant I needed a bit of help with my own two, since my usual backup was coming along with me 😀

Blue from Moochies with Poochies was an absolute star and agreed to help out. She used to groom Beau a few years back so they’re already pals, and even Erika - who can sometimes be a bit unsure with new people - took to her at the meet and greet.

I always try to support other local businesses instead of seeing them as competition. There are many lovely, caring people out there who share the same passion for your dogs and I’m always happy to recommend people, if I can’t help you myself.

Thank you Blue 😊

Miller brought along his little sister, Maple today, to show her where he disappears to and what he gets up to when I pick him up for his walks.

Maple was such a good girl and walked so nicely on her lead, well done Maple - and well done Miller - you were both little stars today 🌟

FIREWORKS ❗️

Over the weekend, one of the lovely dogs I walk, Waffle, managed to pick up a used firework, which caused severe irritation to his eyes. He’s having to stay off walks this week and has been getting treatment at the vets. He’s thoroughly miserable and not the usual bouncy Waffle we all know and love 😢

Sadly, this isn’t the first time I’ve seen the impact fireworks can have on dogs and over the years, as I’ve learned and witnessed more, I’ve grown to dislike them. They might look beautiful to us, but for many dogs (and wildlife), they can be terrifying and even dangerous.

Some of the risks fireworks pose to dogs include:

Burns and injuries if they come into contact with unexploded fireworks or debris.

Toxicity from chewing or ingesting fireworks (many contain harmful chemicals).

Severe anxiety and panic, which can cause dogs to bolt, run into traffic, or injure themselves trying to hide or escape.

Hearing damage - dogs have much more sensitive hearing than we do, so even distant fireworks can be distressing for some dogs.

Fear and behavioural changes long after fireworks night has passed.

If you’re walking your dog or letting them out around this time of year, please keep an eye out for leftover fireworks or debris and if you're letting off fireworks yourself, please remember to remove and dispose of any debris afterwards, wherever possible.

I hope that Waffle is better soon 💙

A quieter week ahead with the half term holidays, but we couldn't have asked for a better start! The dry weather meant we could get out into the fields - and of course, the frisbee was a big favourite 😀

I think these tails are wagging their way into the weekend 😍

That's the end of our walking week - time for a bit of a rest before getting back to it on Monday. Have a good one! x

Two of the sweetest boys, who don’t see much of the camera these days, but are still such a huge part of my week.

I get to start every single day with one or the other … how lucky am I?

Meet Milo 😍

We’ve got a new member in our gang today - Milo, an adorable one year old show Cocker. I absolutely love his tufty hairstyle! - It was a bit dampened down by today’s weather, but the rain definitely didn’t dampen his mood. He’s such a gorgeous boy and settled in beautifully 💜

Happy Monday!

We’ve kicked off the week in the best way - we all got to soak up some sunshine (unexpectedly!) - and the dogs got to tuck into some tasty new treats from The Doggy Deli. Safe to say, we were a very happy bunch today 😀

Here’s a few highlights from our day.
