Tick season is in its prime, have you spotted any yet?

Spider like parasites with eight legs and an egg shape body, easily brushed off as skin tags. Ticks do not jump or fly. They most often attach by climbing and or dropping as the dog moves through long grass, explores the woodland.

Common attachment sites include the head, neck, ears, armpits and groin. I most often find and remove them from the eyebrow and close to the armpit.

TWIST AND PULL TWIST AND PULL is the technique you must use to ensure the tick is removed as a whole.

A little video of one I removed earlier from my own dog.

Caring for the older dog.

Dogs live for an average of twelve years, although many live for much longer and individually age at different rates.

Meet Paddy, 13 years young and an absolute beauty of a dog both in looks and temperament. Whilst Paddy is more than compliant, and willing to stand for his entire groom it is important as a groomer to consider ageing joints and take every opportunity to shorten groom times, move across to senior/comfort grooms when the need arise.

Post bath Paddy positioned himself (as picture), so we took the opportunity to dry and brush out his coat whilst he lay comfortably taking in the view cutting his table/standing time by half.

We adore you Paddy.

The Cinnamon Trust was founded in 1985 with a mission to ensure older people, those living with terminal illness and their beloved companions never have to face the sorrow of parting ways due to lack of support.

Perhaps you are aware of somebody struggling who could benefit from you sharing this link?

Or maybe you would like to support the trust?

We join hands with owners and volunteers nationwide, united by a shared goal—to give every pet the love and care they deserve.

What is de-shedding and why should you do it?

Double coats are made up of a waterproof outer coat and a warm, thick undercoat. De-shedding is a process solely concentrating on removing dead, loose undercoat.

Benefits of de-shedding

Reduces Shedding: regular de-shedding can often remove up to 90% of loose hair, minimizing hair left on furniture, clothing and flooring.

Improves Skin Health: removing loose undercoat will enhance airflow to the skin, aiding in temperature regulation and reducing irritation.

Enhances Coat Appearance: de-shedding allows for the distribution of natural oils, promoting a shiny, healthy coat.

Prevents Matting And Tangling: a build up of loose coat especially in long haired breeds will trap dirt and moisture, hair will become tangled and matted, the skin below will not only struggle to regulate temperature, overtime it will become sore and irritated.

Unsure of your dogs coat type, the web is a great place to start but I am always happy to answer any questions, queries.

Bringing a smile to your face as you rise on a Saturday morning.

The transition from Puppy Grooms to Full Grooms is individual to each pup. It should be about the end goal. A confident, relaxed dog within the grooming environment.

As your groomer, I look for subtle signs that your dog is ready to progress, this video shows just that. A calm, content pup with the ability to switch off and lay down.

Congratulations little one!

Chin Rest!

Teaching and conditioning the Chin Rest will earn you extra brownie points with your groomer, it is so valuable within the grooming environment and when conditioned well will no doubt make grooming sessions so much more relaxed for both your pet and your groomer.

Look at this relaxed and fully content beautiful Poodle demonstrating just that.

Fancy giving it a go, drop me a message or jump online to learn how.
