So, as some of you may know, I had a very bad fall from a green shire mare 9 years ago. I broke my knee, shattered my pelvis, dislocated my hip and broke several ribs.
My passion for horses wasn’t as dented as my body 🤣 and after a 12 month recuperation period I was given the go ahead to ride again so, I jumped on my shire gelding (Trojan) who I trusted implicitly and we were fine.
Then just over 12 months ago I started riding my green shire mare Tiny and in all honestly, I was terrified. I’ve cried, I’ve screamed, I’ve got off, I’ve beaten myself up over my total lack of confidence on her and at one point I contemplated selling her and giving up riding as my two elderly shires were retired and I just couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel 😰
BUT, with the help of two very good friends Emma and Gisele (one is very encouraging, the other gives me tough love) I have finally overcome my fears and I had the best ride ever on my Tiny pony this weekend. We encountered things that terrified me only a matter of 2 months ago and we took them in our stride, we did an open grass field with some very sharp horses for an amazing blast and Tiny was immense!
Safe to say, we now trust each other and it shows ……. We’re a team!
Moral of the story - if you’re struggling with your confidence, stick with it. You’ll get there! 🥰
