Riley, a 7-month-old cocker spaniel was referred to our orthopaedic service following a 6-week duration of right forelimb lameness. Her discomfort seemed to improve following periods of reduced exercise and rest but it never resolved.

On physical examination, the lameness wasn’t evident when walked outside and limb palpation was mostly normal except for right elbow discomfort on extension and supination. A CT scan of the elbows was performed which revealed short radius syndrome causing elbow incongruency and fragmentation of the medial coronoid process of her right elbow with some mild degenerative changes. This was due to early closure of the distal radial physis due to some unknown trauma.

Surgery was scheduled the following week for Riley to undergo a general anaesthetic for arthroscopic removal of the fragment and distal ulna ostectomy. A 3mm fragment was removed from the elbow and it is hoped the ulna ostectomy will allow dynamic restoration of elbow congruency.

Riley recovered comfortably and was able to go home the same day.

Willow had a parotid duct transposition on her right eye last May for severe dry eye 👁️

The video shows her on the day of her surgery before being anaesthetised, where her eyes are sore and causing discomfort, and then the day after her surgery where she is much more comfortable and has good saliva flow to the eye.

She is doing well and at her last check up, Ophthalmologist Marta was happy with her recovery.

⭐It is important to note that this surgery is only conducted for severe dry eye cases that do not improve with medical treatment⭐

This is Paddy, he was referred to the soft tissue team for a cholecystectomy.

Supporting the surgeons was the internal medicine team, who performed an ultrasound scan to confirm his diagnosis. We induced him under general anaesthetic and maintained him with isoflurane and a range of CRI’s, he was also placed on the ventilator to stabilise his breathing, making surgery easier.

We performed the cholecystectomy and took biopsy’s of his liver for analysis. We flushed his bile duct to ensure patency and closed the abdominal wound.

Paddy stayed in our hospital for two nights to monitor his recovery, he was discharged and returned five days later for a post op check and bloods. He has since been fully discharged from the hospital and is doing well, back to his normal self and enjoying playing again.

This video is a collection of pictures and videos from his stay with us 🩵💙
