We are a Canine Hydrotherapy service in Sherburn, between Malton and Scarborough. Hydrotherapy is an essential part of the rehabilitation from injury or surgery. It's also an integral part of treatment for arthritis in dogs. Our team consists of Veterinary Nurses, Hydrotherapists, Massage therapist, Laser therapist, Physiotherapist and Bevhaviourist. 🐾 IVDD in Dogs: Hope, Healing & Hydrotherapy💦

Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) can be devastating. Symptoms can include sudden back pain, weakness, and varying degrees of paralysis as the spinal cord becomes compressed by a degrading disc.

It’s especially common in breeds like Dachshunds, French Bulldogs, Beagles, and Corgis, but any dog can be affected.

The good news? Early intervention and the right rehabilitation can make a huge difference.

So...it's going to be a warm few days! 🌞♨️🌡

💧 Only exercise early in the morning and late in the evening when it is cooler, don’t let them run and reduce the time out

🐾 Some dogs may not need walks at all depending on their condition and sensitivity to the heat. Extra care to be given to braciocephalic breeds, the elderly and very young dogs

💧Extra water bowls available inside and outside

🚗 Only travel with them if really necessary

🏠Keep them in a cool room during the day, only short, supervised periods outside

❄️Try making ice cakes from empty ice cream tubs, fill with water and add some apple, carrot or dog treats and freeze

🐕Wet towels on tiled floor or in the shade outside for them to lie on NOT WET TOWELS DIRECTLY ON THE DOG

❗️Be more vigilant with health conditions, how’re minor. Any vomiting or diarrhoea can be much more serious in hot weather

🐾Keep on top of your dogs coat, make sure the dead hair is removed by brushing to allow air flow to the skin

If in doubt the fastest way to cool is to POUR LOTS OF COLD WATER over the dog💦💦💦💦💦

Say hello to Shadow, our brave superstar! 🩵

Today, he took the plunge and experienced his first swimming experience at 4 years old!

Initially hesitant around us and the water 💦 our expert team, led by hydrotherapist Bex, helped him build confidence with positive reinforcement, patience, and of course, chicken! 🍗

The result? Shadow voluntarily coming off the platform into the water by the end of the session! 🐾

We're incredibly proud of him! Well done, Shadow! 👏

Meet Maeve 🌸🐿️

Maeve is under the care of Jacqui at Nala's Nook Squirrel & Corvid Sanctuary. When she was a kit, she as diagnosed with brain damage and Scoliosis. Despite her diagnosis, Maeve is a happy, sassy, and active girl who loves to play. How all squirrels should be!

Recently, Maeve developed a wound on her leg from excessive licking. To determine the cause, we're working with a local vets to form a treatment plan. Working with wild animals has its challenges so we are targeting the wound to start with using our Class 4 Laser. We will then work on other areas of the body to reduce discomfort once Maeve is more comfortable at our centre.

Grey Squirrels were brought to the UK by the Victorians but unfortunately still classed as an invasive species, so they can't be reintroduced into the wild. Luckily, they adapt well to captivity, but require specialised care. Squirrels may be cute, but their care is challenging and shouldn't be kept as pets.
