🌿 Self Care Sunday πŸ’œ

Just a little reminder that you’re allowed to slow down today.

Self-care doesn’t have to mean spa days, expensive treats or disappearing to a luxury hotel for 48 hours.

Sometimes it’s simply:

πŸ’œ Getting outside for some fresh air
πŸ’œ Putting your phone down for a while
πŸ’œ Saying no without feeling guilty
πŸ’œ Having a proper rest
πŸ’œ Spending time with people (or pets) who make you happy
πŸ’œ Doing something purely because you enjoy it
πŸ’œ Giving yourself a bit of grace when you’re not having your best day

You don’t need to earn rest.

You don’t need to be productive every minute of the day.

And you definitely don’t need to have your entire life together by Monday. πŸ˜‚

Take a little time for yourself today.

You matter πŸ’œ
It's never Selfish πŸ’œ
You deserve it. πŸ’œ

Ems (Wifey) - Why are your legs akways covered in bruises?

Me - Umm well you see, Indy beats me with a stick if I don't bring a ball, Oz has zero spacial awareness, Ledley runs quicker than I can keep up and Vinny....

Ems - What about Vinny?

Me - Well he is refusing to eat anything so I have to pretend to eat his food, 'accidentally' drop it all over the floor then crawl around on all 4s racing him to eat it so he can win at eating.

Ems - Ffs πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ love them πŸ’œ

✨ Self Care Sunday ✨

When you spend your days looking after everyone else, whether that's your family, your clients, or a house full of four-legged friends - it's easy to forget to look after yourself.

Today's little reminder is that self-care doesn't have to be extravagant.

It might be a quiet cup of tea before the day begins.

A walk without checking your phone.

Five minutes in the sunshine.

A proper meal.

An early night.

Whatever fills your cup, make time for it.

I've got a busy few weeks ahead, so today's focus is making sure I'm looking after myself as well as I look after the pets in my care.

Because you can't pour from an empty cup.

So here's your Sunday reminder: be kind to yourself. You deserve the same care and compassion that you so freely give to everyone else. πŸ’œ

πŸ’œ You matter
πŸ’œ You deserve it
πŸ’œ It's never selfish.

What's one small thing you're doing for yourself today?

Friday night appreciation post. πŸ’œ

Can we all just take a moment to appreciate how ridiculously photogenic Shadow is? 😍

This gorgeous boy is one of my regulars, and I've had the pleasure of caring for him a few times each year. It's one of the reasons I love building long-term relationships with the pets I care for. Every visit helps strengthen trust, reduce any anxiety around someone new coming into the home, and means I'm much more likely to notice if anything changes with their behaviour, appetite or health.

✨ A little business update... I'm now fully booked right through until 20th September! Thank you to every single client who continues to trust me with your pets - it genuinely means the world.

I'll be reopening my books after 20th September, but if you've been thinking about finding a pet sitter, I'd recommend getting in touch sooner rather than later. I already have enquiries coming in for those dates, so availability will be limited.

For now though... I'll leave you with the incredibly handsome Shadow, because I think he's stolen the show this week. πŸΎπŸ’™

I know this might be unpopular.

I've seen so many new dog walkers and pet sitters popping up lately, and I genuinely support that. We all had to start somewhere.

What I don't support is seeing pet care advertised as cheap or as a way to earn a bit of pocket money.

Because this isn't pocket money.

This is a profession with real responsibility.

I'm still a relatively new pet sitter and walker myself, so the irony isn't lost on me. But in these (almost)two years I've invested thousands of pounds into insurance, training, first aid, courses, equipment, transport, systems and continuing education. I've done that because someone's pet deserves more than someone who simply "loves animals."

Loving animals is the starting point, not the qualification.

Professional pet care means understanding behaviour, recognising illness and injury, spotting potentially fatal risks like grass seeds, managing dog interactions safely, knowing how to respond when something goes wrong, protecting clients' homes, carrying the right insurance, and accepting that the responsibility sits with you.

And it's not just dogs. Cats can be frightened, anxious, stressed or defensive. A cat swipe isn't "just a scratch"- cat claws carry bacteria, and injuries can become serious infections if not treated properly. Cats are highly susceptible to many illnesses if they stop eating or drinking, theres so much to be mindful of. Every species comes with its own risks, responsibilities and knowledge.

Every time we market this industry as "cheap" or "just pocket money", we diminish the skill, investment and professionalism that so many pet care professionals bring to their work.

Our industry deserves better than that. Our families, deserve the very best. Our charges, deserve the very best.

I've realised something.

People don't just want someone to look after their pets.

The longer I do this, the more I realise something...

Pet care isn't built in an hour.

It's built over weeks.

Months.

Sometimes years.

It's learning that one dog prefers the shady route.

That another likes their harness put on a certain way.

That a cat only comes downstairs once they've heard your voice.

It's remembering birthdays.

Celebrating milestones.

Noticing when something doesn't feel quite right.

That's the kind of pet care I've always wanted to build.

And it's exactly what's shaping what's coming next.

πŸ’œ

Thoughtfully creating something special... one paw at a time.

🐾 I don't build my diary around last-minute bookings. I build it around relationships.

Dogs and cats thrive on familiarity.

Knowing who's coming through the door.

Knowing their routine stays the same.

Knowing they're safe.

That's why I love working with owners who plan ahead. It gives us time to build trust, not just book a service.

But once you're part of the Thistle & Tails family?

Life happens.

Meetings run late. Cars break down. Emergencies crop up.

And if I can help, I will.

Because by then, you're not asking a stranger for a favour...
You're asking someone who already knows your pets, your home and your routine. πŸ’œ

If this sounds like the kind of care you want for your pets, let's start with a meet and greet.

πŸ’œ Self Care Sunday πŸ’œ

Here is your weekly remonder to take a moment to slow down, breathe, and check in with yourself.

Self-care doesn’t have to be big or expensive - a walk, a cup of tea, a good book, or simply taking 10 minutes for yourself can make all the difference.

You can't pour from an empty cup. Be kind to yourself .

You matter.
You deserve it.
Its never selfish.
