Here are the best tips we have compiled to help your dog cope with fireworks 🎆🐾.
🌔Before they start:
• Give a good, structured walk earlier to release energy and lower stress. 🦮
• Set up a safe, cosy space (crate, den, or somewhere they choose) 🛋️
• Close curtains and windows to reduce flashes and sound 🪟
• Have a chew or enrichment toy ready to keep them busy and calm 🦴
🎆When they’re going off:
• Stay calm and neutral — your dog reads your energy. 🧘♀️
• Avoid coddling, cuddling or constant reassurance — this accidentally rewards fear and tells them there is something to worry about.
• Instead, be a calm, steady presence 😌. Sit nearby if they want comfort, but let them come to you. Quiet touch is fine if it helps them relax, not if it fuels panic.
• Play gentle music or white noise, and try a few light training cues or pattern games to shift their focus.🎶🎵
• A Thundershirt or vet-approved calming aid can also help.
Longer term:
Gradually expose them to low-level firework or thunder sounds during calm, positive moments — it teaches them to trust and recover with your guidance 💛.
We have noticed a huge improvement with our 6 rescue dogs over time with this advice. Good luck and alll the best🤞💖 x
