Yesterday a pair of Ringed Plovers, successfully hatched 3 chicks on Mudeford Sandbank. This is the first confirmed breeding since 1984. The chicks are tiny and very vulnerable and within a busy public area. They are quite fast and could turn up anywhere but are likely to stay along the shoreline. We are working with the Beach Hut Owners' Association and Christchurch Harbour Ornithological Group to help protect them. To give them the best chance of success we are asking that: dogs are kept on a lead beyond the Black House, all visitors observe signs and remain vigilant whilst on site. It will take just over 3 weeks before they are able to fly. Please do not approach or attempt to touch the chicks.

Its advice about birdlife links to the Bird Aware Coastal Code: look out for birds 🦆 move further away if they become alert 🚶‍♂️ keep dogs alongside 🐕 and follow requests on signs 💙

Found some photos today that brought back lovely memories of a very long 'pet sit', looking after the gorgeous Fluke for over 2 years due to the declining health of his human.

This was a great house sit with Monty the whippet and Alfie the Jack Russell right on the edge of Savernake Forest.
