🚨🌙 LAST NIGHT IN THE SPIDER DEN 🌙🚨

Emerging from the depths like some kind of eight-legged cryptid, our elusive Brazilian blonde tarantula (Nhandu tripepii) decided to grace us with her presence… and immediately commit absolute dinner-time chaos 🕷️💥

We barely ever see this girl – she’s usually buried away in her underground lair plotting world domination (or just being a spider, same thing really). But when she does show up, it’s never uneventful… and last night’s takedown did NOT disappoint.

Lightning-fast, zero hesitation, straight-up ambush mode engaged ⚡🍽️

She’s coming along beautifully though – putting on some solid size and really starting to look the part now. Always a good sign when the food doesn’t stand a chance 😅

Stick around… you never know when she’ll make her next surprise appearance

A rare moment with Babs 🕷️

Our OBT decided to come out and explore today — and she was looking incredible while doing it 🔥

It didn’t last long though… as soon as she noticed us watching, she made a quick retreat back to her lair.

Classic Babs behaviour.

🚨 Trigger Warning 🚨
This video contains feeding footage (large prey), which may not be suitable for everyone.

---

This video shows Rocky being fed a large rabbit.

When Rocky first came to us, he wasn’t striking properly during feeds. His previous owner was nervous of him and would drop food into the enclosure, leaving him to find and consume it on his own. As a result, he lacked a clear, natural feeding response.

Since then, we’ve made some important changes:

• Feeding less frequently
• Offering larger, more appropriate prey items
• Encouraging a proper strike-and-constrict response

---

For those interested, this is how snakes naturally take down larger prey:

• Strike – a fast, accurate bite to secure the prey
• Coil – wrapping their body around it immediately
• Constrict – tightening with each breath out, restricting blood flow
• Swallow – consuming the prey whole

Contrary to popular belief, snakes don’t “crush” their prey — the constriction works by stopping circulation.

---

It’s great to see Rocky now showing a more natural and confident feeding response. This is exactly the kind of behaviour we aim to encourage in rescued animals.

Meet Irwin. Yes. IRWIN. 🐍🔥

Our young, UK captive bred Carpet Python, already acting like he pays the mortgage.

He’s settled in beautifully, feeding like an absolute champion and putting on size exactly as he should. No drama. No nonsense. Just steady growth and that classic python confidence building day by day.

Now… like all young snakes, he’s a little defensive at the moment. Tiny hiss. Slightly offended noodle energy. Completely normal. Babies don’t wake up majestic — they level up into it.

We’re putting the time in with regular, calm handling so he learns that humans are friends, not giant heat-signature monsters. Patience builds confidence, and confidence builds incredible animals.

And speaking of incredible…

Carpet pythons are seriously impressive snakes. Depending on locality, they can grow anywhere from 5 to 9 feet long, sometimes even reaching 12 to 13 feet. They’re strong, intelligent, curious, and absolutely stunning once mature — bold patterns, powerful builds, and that unmistakable “I am a tree dwelling legend” presence.

Irwin has a lot of growing to do, but the potential is already there.

We can’t wait to get him to a point where he’s calm and confident enough to join us during our handling sessions and educational visits. There’s nothing better than showing people just how misunderstood — and magnificent — these animals really are.

For now?
He eats.
He grows.
He judges us from his branch.

Standard python behaviour. 🐍✨

This pairing has some seriously exciting genetics, so we’re really looking forward to seeing what comes from it 👀🔥

A fantastic morning spent visiting John Wycliffe Primary School 🐸

We delivered two sessions to their Foundation Stage “Frogs” class, and it was an absolute joy from start to finish.

The children were brilliantly behaved, full of curiosity, and a credit to the school. Even better, the staff were just as intrigued as the pupils — asking questions, getting involved, and sharing in the excitement.

There’s something truly special about seeing eyes light up (young and grown-up!) when people come face to face with these incredible creatures.

Photos coming next week… but to say it was a hit would be a serious understatement 🙌

🔥 Meet Randy, the subterranean snack demon of Stonegate! 🔥

This little fossorial legend doesn’t just hide underground for fun—he’s plotting his next meal. And today… it’s a fat, juicy dubia roach getting absolutely obliterated. 🪳💥

Rear-horned baboons like Randy are built for the underground life: they dig, they burrow, they vanish into their tunnels… but bring food near, and they suddenly become the hungriest little snack demon you’ve ever seen.

Watch him tuck in like a pro, because in the world of fossorial species, it’s survival of the hungriest. 🕷️

Heaston the Sulcata absolutely ploughing through a salad 🥬🐢
No rush. No mercy. Just pure grazing efficiency.

Sulcatas are built for high-fibre greens and weeds —
slow eating, constant munching, and an appetite that never clocks off.

Proof that “calm” animals can still be absolute menaces to lettuce. 🥬
