Working on recall from distractions. If you have a dog that does not always come back, keep them on a long line so you can ensure your dog cannot ignore your recall. Once they get better at it, you start to shorten the long line and when the time is right, remove it!

Amazing work from this lovely lady and her cane corso.

Well done to Julie and Laura. That's great work. Julie just remember what I said about this when you are on your own.

Guys, instead of saying I can't do it, let Julie be your inspiration. She may be in a scooter or on
Crutches, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard Julie say I can’t do it! She’s made friend with a class mate and the class mate was with her on this occasion and took the video for her.

Only a few weeks ago, this little beauty pulled his owner, chewed on the lead and bruised her arms, so during a one to one we introduced him to the head collar. Now he’s walking lovely without the head collar. His behaviour was so much better in class this week. #

With 22 years of experience working with dogs of all ages, breeds and behaviours. I offer classes for you and your new puppy, teenage dog, or an adult dog.

Our training is fun, friendly, and focused on real-life skills.

Some of the things that you and your pup or dog will learn are:

* Reliable Recall: Every off-lead dog should have a solid recall. I’ll show you how to build a recall your dog will respond to—even around distractions.

* Loose Lead Walking: Enjoy relaxed, enjoyable walks with a dog who understands how to walk nicely on the lead.

* “Leave It”. A solid “leave it” helps keep your dog safe by teaching them to ignore tempting objects at home or out and about.

* Drop/Release Items: Whether it’s a toy, a shoe, or that irresistible tissue on the ground, your dog will learn to release items calmly and reliably before chewing or swallowing the item.

* No Jumping up & Impulse Control: Help your dog develop good manners and self-control, both at home and in public.

Life Skills Classes

These classes are designed to introduce you and your dog to exercises and games that build strong foundations in your relationship. You will learn to understand your dog’s needs better and confidently manage behaviours both at home and out and about. No dog is ever too old to learn.

We also offer 1-2-1 training for any behaviours.

Do you struggle with your dog and the car?

Maybe the dog won’t jump in.

Maybe the dog shakes and drools whilst in the car.

Maybe the dog barks at anything going by when they are in the car.

Maybe the dog puts on their brakes and refuses to walk to the car.

Whatever issue with the car is Julie can help with a one to one.

For more info give Julie a call after she starts back to work on Saturday.

Tip

Real world socialisation is about getting your puppy use to everything they will meet during their lifetime gradually. Don’t overwhelm them.

It’s not about letting them interact with everything they see. We want them to understand they can still enjoy another dog, puppy or persons company/ presence without having to meet/ go over to every single dog or person they see.

Running up to the wrong dog can cause big problems for you and your pup, (as well as the other dog and owner). Likewise we don’t want a pup learning jumping up humans is acceptable.

It might appear cute to you, but when that tiny pup grows up it can cause injuries and knock someone over, scratch their legs, get overexcited and start using their mouth. That person could be afraid of dogs, even friendly dogs.

If it’s the wrong person or dog that your dog runs up too, then both of you and your dog can land up in trouble/get hurt. So many friendly dogs run up to reactive dogs and owner shouts those famous words we all hear “he’s friendly “. That dog may be, but the dog your dog is running up to may not be.

That does not mean the reactive dog should not be in the park. Here’s why, the other owner could be practicing what their behaviourist is teaching them. They may be at a distance with their dog on lead. Dog on lead and under control. Then your over friendly dog runs up to them and you can’t recall your dog. Well guess whose dog should not be off lead. The park is big enough for both, as long as both dogs are under control. If you see someone with a dog on lead, don’t let your dog go over to the dog. Keep yours on lead until you are well away from them. Go in the other direction. Then both handlers and dogs are able to enjoy the park. Dogs are on lead for many reasons. The dog may be reactive, recovering from an op, not like being chased by other dogs etc. All have the right to be there.

Don’t just think about what you are teaching your puppy now, also think about what you are promoting for the future.

I’m not saying don’t let your dog play with others, I’m saying choose who and when they can go and say hello. Give that other dog and person the option. You don’t know that dog or person.
