AlmoNature, CompanionAnimalForLife, ImpactOnBiodiversity, RegeneratingVillaFortuna are projects by Fondazione Capellino, a non-profit philanthropic organisation protecting dogs, cats and biodiversity.
Almo Nature pet food is created from the animal’s perspective and respects their natural, instinctive needs. Almo Nature was the first pet food brand to develop wet and dry food for cats and dogs with HFC (originally fit for human consumption but used for pet food instead) ingredients and without any preservatives, artificial flavours or food colouring.
All Almo Nature ranges are cruelty free: neither the ingredients or the products are tested on dogs or cats. There are four product lines in total: HFC/Alternative, BioOrganic, Holistic and Daily, making it easier for you to find your companion’s next favourite meal.
Almo Nature works in two ways: it produces high-quality food for cats and dogs, and the profits are used to finance projects aimed at protecting dogs, cats and biodiversity. It’s a unique model of philanthropy and a first of its kind.
Love and respect have always been at the heart of Almo Nature's work. The company was created to change the way we feed dogs and cats, taking their innate needs and requirements as a starting point.
But that's not all: there was always a desire to create a world where animals and biodiversity are protected, a desire that turned into reality in 2019 when Almo Nature was donated to a foundation: Fondazione Capellino. A move that created the very first business model solely based on solidarity. All Almo Nature’s profits are used to finance the foundation’s projects, aiming to develop solidarity initiatives that help to protect dogs, cats and biodiversity.
Almo Nature was founded in 2000 by Pier Giovanni Capellino, a long-standing entrepreneur in the pet food industry. Almo Nature was the first company in the world to produce dog and cat food with 100% HFC ingredients, meaning they were originally fit for human consumption. Almo Nature set new production standards by demonstrating the ability to innovate as it only used the very best raw materials.
The company is now a pocket-sized multinational company with its headquarters based in Genoa and smaller offices based in Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, France, The Netherlands, Canada, the United States, and China.
Commercial growth has always been synonymous with solidarity at Almo Nature and this was materialised by donating the company to a foundation in 2019: the Fondazione Capellino.
Almo Nature is literally owned by the animals, it’s the property of dogs, cats and every other animal. The sales profits, after deducting taxes, expenses and investments, are used to finance the foundation's projects designed to support initiatives that raise awareness and promote respect for all life forms.
The foundation currently manages 5 active projects:
1. ALMO NATURE - produces natural high-quality food for dogs and cats. Its profits are used to finance the other 4 projects aiming to protect dogs, cats and biodiversity.
2. COMPANION ANIMAL FOR LIFE - raising awareness for responsible companionship and finding a life-long companion for every cat and dog by promoting adoption and ending animal abandonment.
3. REGENERATING VILLA FORTUNA- experiments with agricultural approaches that are beneficial to nature and biodiversity whilst being economically viable and sustainable at the same time.
4. IMPACT ON BIODIVERSITY- using innovative models and approaches to assess the impact of human action, designed and instigated to protect biodiversity, and improve them in order to establish a new set of best practices.
