This is a long overdue post. The rate of loss this year has been a lot to bear.

I had the pleasure of taking over Marlow and Kenzie's walks in mid June 2025, after Dan at 2 Tails Dog Training moved away from Perth. From the get go, these girls were a delight. Mischievous at times, happy go lucky and great with other dogs. Marlow was the calmer of the 2 and a bit more reserved - she stole my heart. Kenzie was ALWAYS up for cuddles and would sit on the feet of anybody who stood still, long enough to say hello. They already knew Miso, who would occasionally join us on walks - the 3 of them rather enjoyed the muddy water at Carine Open Space! 🙈 Marlow and Kenzie were introduced to Candy and Molly, who soon became their regular walking buddies. Molly developed a lot of confidence on her walks with Marlow and Kenzie and Candy learned to tolerate travelling with other dogs in the car. 🥰

We farewelled Marlow on 17 February 2026 and made sure we took good care of Kenzie, whilst she grieved for her sister - until she left us on 27 June.

These photos were taken 1 year ago, on 21 August 2025 - including the mess they made in the back of my car, removing a tennis ball from a dog poo bag, en route to the park!

We miss you girls.... and your antics 💔

A HELP post.

Soooo, with the help of regular donators here, I just paid off half of my 13 thousand dollar current vet bills. I now have 6 thousand to go. So grateful for the help of my regular donators helping me give real vet care to these chickens that they are entitled to.

What I need now is a little help paying off the next 6 thousand. If you're sceptical of helping a little sanctuary you don't know much about, please know that I've been committed to helping animals my whole life, but I've been taking them in and caring for them since 2011. I have 203 animals here. I am vegan and haven't eaten an animal since I was 15 years old (I'm now 48). I've been taking photos and telling the stories of animals for so long I can't remember when I started. My photography page is Tamara Kenneally Photography. Lefty's Place is all about giving these chickens a safe place to live out their lives after coming from farms or backyards full of neglect and abuse. I also have 34 sheep here, 3 horses, 7 cats and 2 dogs.

Pictured - Bullet With Butterfly Wings. Rescued in 2021 after escaping an abattoir. Lived an amazing life here for 5 years. Died in June, 2026. Buried here with hundreds of other chickens who came before her.
