A beautiful clump of Common Houseleeks (Sempervivum tectorum) growing in the cracks of a driveway, the colour more glaucous than green makes it easy to spot. This clump is surely more than few years old and it has survived many winters without any protection at all. Houseleeks have been growing in the UK since Roman times. Old Irish and Welsh tales say that if planted on the roof of houses it would protect from fire, lightning and bring prosperity.
