Fireworks season can be a real fright for many pets, and it’s completely understandable! Pets, especially dogs and cats, are far more sensitive to sounds than we are.
If your pet struggles with fireworks, we've got some tips to help make them feel more secure:
Create a Safe Space: Set up a quiet room with familiar bedding, blankets, and some of their favorite toys. Close the windows and curtains to muffle sounds and keep any flashes of light out.
Play Soothing Sounds: Calm music, white noise, or even TV can help cover up the sound of fireworks. Consider something that your pet finds comforting.
Stay Calm: Pets can pick up on our emotions, so if you’re calm and comforting, they’re more likely to feel safe. Offer gentle words and try to keep a relaxed demeanor.
Use Calming Aids: Calming sprays, treats, or pheromone diffusers do work, and can help reduce anxiety. Chat with us if you’d like more recommendations tailored to your pet’s needs.
Distract with Toys and Treats: Offering their favorite toy or treat can give them something positive to focus on during fireworks.
Fireworks don’t have to be a scary time for pets. With a few steps and a bit of planning, you can help make this season much more comfortable for them. If you have any questions about keeping your pet free from firework fear - give us a call!
