Taxidermy African Grey Parrot by Peter Spicer, circa 1890

Charming, unusual Victorian cased African Grey Parrot, mounted by Peter Spicer of Royal Leamington Spa. Naturalistically modelled with head turning back, perched upon a highly detailed earthy bank and tree roots encrusted with moss, lichen and fern. Set against a subtle watercolour painted backdrop ofa distant tree canopy and graduated sky. trademark signed pebble is set lower left, faintly marked for Peter Spicer only (pre-Sons). Mounted in the original ebonised, three sided glazed table-top display case with beading all round.

Matching Pair of Horse Hooves by Rowland Ward, circa 1900

Fine matching pair of commemorative racehorse hooves preserved by Rowland Ward of Piccadilly, who's firm led the way in producing all manner of useful objects from beloved animals or trophies of the chase. Mounted here as inkwells, the hinged lids revealing glass liners. Set in polished silver-plated mounts, bearing Rowland Ward trade stamps to the underside of each shoe and scored with job no's 8540

Lady Morgan' 1680 Medal Mounted Pony Hoof, 1846

Most unusual and elaborately preserved Victorian Shetland Pony hoof of Lady Morgan 1825-1846. The tiny polished hoof is set in solid sterling gilded silver, bearing hallmarks for the noted 19th Century silversmith and jeweller A. G. Wighton of Edinburgh, active 1823-1863. One of very few hooves known to be inset with a sovereign or medallion, here Hamerani's (1649-1705) 1680 gilt medal of Christina, Queen of Sweden, is inlaid to the hinged lid, revealing a glass inkwell. This rare medal is often referred as Queen Christina's disdain for the earthly and longing for something more perfect'. Tarantula Wall Case by F. E. Gunn, circa 1930

Unusual preserved Tarantula by Frederick Ernest Gunn (1869-1950) of 84 St. Giles Street, Norwich (son of Thomas). The specimen is set upon a bed of cotton Wool and housed within the original oval-shaped, metal-framed wall hanging display case with mounting bracket and taxidermists full paper trade label verso.

Horse Hoof Chambersticks by George Butt, circa 1890

Fine and large matching pair of late 19th century race horse hooves immortalised by the noted London naturalist Geo. F. Butt FZS of 49 Wigmore Street. Rendered as chambersticks, the silver-plated mounts are chased to simulate the horses hair and handles as leather straps. The underside of each polished shoe bears a tiny, oval shaped trade stamp.

Horse Hoof Student Oil Lamp by Rowland Ward, circa 1890

Probably the most extravagant way in which a horse hoof could be mounted, by the famous firm Rowland Ward & Co. Naturalists of 166 Piccadilly. A rare surviving Victorian students adjustable 'rise and fall oil lamp. The weighted hoof is adorned in silver-plated fittings with chased hair detail, stamped to the upper mount with name and also small trade logo to the polished shoe. Original and operational, featuring burner and wick, milk glass shade, cylindrical oil tank and glass chimney.

Taxidermy Ermine Stoat by W. Shelbrooke, 1927

Quality mounted Ermine Stoat by W. C. Shelbrooke of 65 Friar's Street, Bridgnorth, Shropshire. This taxidermist along with George Quatremain of Stratford upon Avon, were the two notable apprentices to Peter Spicer, who went onto run their own successful businesses and whose similarity to Spicer can be seen here. Posed with one paw raised and head turned, cased in Shelbrooke's distinctive manner incorporatinga watercolour painted backdrop and colourful natural groundwork. Housed in a smal, light-oak case, glazed and beaded to three sides, ideal for bookshelf display but also with a brass hanger for wall mounting. The reverse is faintly signed in pencil Shelbrooke, Bridgnorth, May 1927.

Finely mounted Stoat in ermine, by Rowland Ward Ltd. of Piccadilly, London. Housed in a small, stylish all- glass tabletop case with black taped frame, where the excellence of the taxidermy can be viewed from al sides. Raised upon a natural groundwork of moss and fallen leaves, signed to one: 'R. Ward London'. The underside carries a Sable Antelope paper trade label Naturalists to H.M. The King' which is known to have been used up to 1922.

Southampton' Horse Hoof by Rowland Ward, circa 1890

Quality late-Victorian horse hoof presented as an inkwell, preserved by Rowland Ward of Piccadilly, London. Set in silver-plated mounts with chased hair detail, the hinged lid is engraved for the racehorse Southampton' below an owner's initial and coronet which are reserved for members of the nobility. The original glass liner is intact, the lid and shoe both carry early Rowland Ward & Co. Naturalists' trade stamps.

Taxidermy Ducks by James Hutchings, circa 1900

Finely mounted quad case of Ducks by the eminent Welsh taxidermist Hutchings of Aberystwyth 1860-1942. Beautifuly arranged and entirely original having come from a farm in SW Wales. Comprising braces of Mallard and Green-winged Teal, each displaying on distinctively painted faux rocky ledges with brightly coloured vegetation, set against a graduated sky backboard. Housed in an ebonised case raised upon block feet, three-sides glazed/gilt beaded.

Taxidermy Cased Birds of Australia, circa 1880

Victorian arrangement of brightly-coloured Australian birds, artistically mnounted on branches and set against a graduated painted sky backdrop. Housed in a large three-sided glass case with veneered and lacquered finish.

Comprising fourteen birds, various ground and branch -dwelling beetles, moth and butterflies in flight. Species include:

Blue-winged Kookaburra, Oriental Dollarbird, Forest Kingfisher, Rainbow Lorikeet, Green Lorikeet, Peaceful Dove, Scarlet Myzomela, Rufous Whistler, Blue-faced Honeyeater, Leaden Flycatcher x2, Little Bronze Cuckoo, Red-backed Fairywren and Striated Pardalote.

Taxidermy Pheasants by Peter Spicer, circa 1871-76

Large, enchanting Victorian case displaying a brace of unusually plumed Ring-necked Pheasants, produced by the famous Peter Spicer of Royal Leamington Spa. Spicer's artistry and skill as a taxidermist is clear to see, each bird set in an animated pose and presented amongst arching branches and undulating earth with lichen and foliage, blending seamlessly with a well- executed watercolour painting of bracken, skeletal trees, a distant fence and colourful sky. Housed within an ebonised three-sided glazed/beaded case, the reverse with paper trade label for 10 Victoria Terrace (c1871-76)
