π 1. knowing what's actually happening first β from around age 4 the joint fluid starts drying up. that's the thick syrupy fluid between the bones, and it's the only thing stopping bone grinding on bone. once it goes, the cartilage starts wearing. and cartilage doesn't grow back.
𦴠2. MyCompanion hip and joint chews β my non-negotiable, every morning since he was five. green-lipped mussel and hyaluronic acid go at the joint fluid, glucosamine and chondroitin protect the cartilage, turmeric and MSM bring the swelling down. nine actives in one chew and most brands only cover one of the three. (Amazon link here, in the comments and in my bio πΎ) or search mycompanion joint chews on amazon: https://linktw.in/DtrvZz β
βοΈ 3. keep them lean. this matters more than everything else on this list combined. you should feel the ribs easily without pressing.
π 4. never let them jump out of the car β lift them or use a ramp. that's a drop of two to three feet straight through the front legs.
ποΈ 5. steps for the sofa and the bed. every jump down is a landing.
πͺ΅ 6. rugs on hard floors β dogs slip most when getting up, which is when they're most vulnerable.
βοΈ 7. keep the nails short. if you can hear clicking on the floor they're too long, and that changes the angle the paw lands at.
πΆ 8. two shorter walks instead of one long one, and grass over pavement wherever you can.
πΎ 9. stop throwing the ball high β the sprint, skid and twist is one of the highest-impact things a dog can do.
ποΈ 10. a proper supportive bed, out of draughts. cold stiffens joints overnight.
consistency is the whole secret. boring on purpose.
want my full routine? comment ROUTINE and I'll DM you the exact daily routine I use with mine. make sure you're following so it doesn't land in your hidden requests ππ
