A Class Saddlery Supports Berwick's Cancer Cars in the Great North Run 💙

We were extremely proud to support Berwick Cancer Cars in this year’s Great North Run on Sunday 7th September 2025.

This amazing local charity, based in Berwick-upon-Tweed, provides vital transport for people diagnosed with cancer, helping them travel to regional hospitals and specialist treatment centres further afield. Their work makes a real difference to patients and families across our community.

This year was extra special as my Gran, Maureen Aitchison, completed the run for the tenth time – at the remarkable age of 73! 👏 What a fantastic achievement – huge congratulations Gran, from everyone at A Class Saddlery! 🏃‍➡️💫

Introducing A Class Saddlery

My name is Ailsa Aitchison, I am a trainee Saddle Fitter with the Society of Master Saddlers. I have had a love for horses all my life and currently own a Welsh x Arab Mare named Della who I compete in Dressage with.

My aim is to help horses and owners have a correctly fitting saddle to ensure the horse is happy and comfortable to do their job and the rider feels secure and confident to be able to reach the full potential of their horse’s ability. I am looking forward to leaving a yard knowing that the horse and rider are happy in their saddle and are both ready to have lots of fun together.

As a trainee you must have 3 years of experience in the industry before you are eligible to complete your qualified exam. I have been training for the past two years with Kevin Blackie from KB Saddlery, I have also completed my introduction course with the Society of Master Saddlers, I have done a flocking course with Jen Roy from Springfield Saddlery. I have also attended workshops run by Kay Hastilow covering many different aspects of how to carry out the perfect fit.

I am really looking forward to meeting everyone and their lovely ponies!
