A very special show and tell today, with all the quilts featured in Pat Storey's book 'Geometrical Quilts'. Heaven for maths needs and quilters like me.
In other news we keep producing strips towards our strip quilt challenge, which will hopefully result in several charity quilts. Today Mandy and Lynda showed theirs.

Another eclectic mix of show and tell items this week. From Mandy's little patchwork quilt for a stuffed animal, and her key purse, to Chris' kingfisher and felt seascape fabric art. And then Lynda's colourful contribution to the shoal of fish the VAC group appear to be working on.

A few very nice items in show and tell today. Mary's entirely hand sewn log cabin cushion. Mandy's fish art and glasses case. And Julie's colourful handbag. We're also working on some stash busting projects for charity and had our second strip exchange today. Beginning to see that these quilts will all have very unique stories and characters, so watch this spot.

What a busy afternoon 'team WHQ' had today. We bravely tackled our equipment store and managed to reduce its contents by about a third. We can now see the sewing machines, irons, rulers and mats that are the tools of or trade (or art, really). And we have a manageable amount of fabrics for future projects.
Maybe we can try to produce wall hangings, as beautiful as this African inspired one from Pam. Or maybe we can make something useful like Mandy's glasses case instead.
The last picture is information on a local embroidery exhibition we are all really looking forward to. Can't wait.

I almost forgot to post Wednesday's show and tell!
Starting with my favourite, Chris' tribute to her grandmother, followed by two items from workshops, one painted/sprayed on velvet, which gives a lovely effect. Then Julie showed us her finished wonky log cabin, with its posh reverse side. Mary, also working on a log cabin, a cushion, asked for suggestions on how to quilt it. And June showed another cushion, with a fluffy bunny. Sheila, Mandy, Pauline and Lynda shared their fishy business with us and I think it was Jackie, who recommended viewing the Welsh tapestry referenced in the last picture. An enjoyable afternoon.

Show and tell was short and sweet this week, with Julie working on a 3D object she started 'years ogo'. So often our group meetings inspire us to finish long forgotten ufos (unfinished objects). Then Pam and Mary impressed us with the first of many, many strips that are part of a challenge to make 18 charity quits from donated fabrics. It'll be interesting.

Show and tell was a small affair today. Norma showed us a beautiful blue striped charity quilt. June showed us a very bright quilt called Red Hats.
Ann says those who are entering the group quilt will need to be ready to move on to the next person on Wednesday 1st July. Names will be drawn out of Ann’s very bright hat as to who you pass it on to.

Norma won the raffle.
Date for your diary 22nd July - there will be a talk on Welsh quilt bureaus (specifically the Rural Industries Bureau or RIB) formed in the 1920s-30s to revive traditional Welsh quilting, turning a struggling cottage craft into a luxury, high-quality export to support impoverished mining communities. More details later.

With the 2026 exhibition closed we can now also reveal the Visitors Choice/Doreen Gough trophy awarded to Martina's Ever...

With the 2026 exhibition closed we can now also reveal the Visitors Choice/Doreen Gough trophy awarded to Martina's Every Shadow Tells a Story. Apparently a shadow sampler is a rare thing. Second went to Martina's Homeless Quilt. And Polly's Applique Quilt beat Lynda's There be Dragons by just one vote. Norma's total body of work exhibited got the highest number of votes after Martina and Polly. I think we can all be proud of ourselves.

Only one show and tell today, but what an amazing quilt. This one deserves to be featured by itself, with its abundance ...

Only one show and tell today, but what an amazing quilt. This one deserves to be featured by itself, with its abundance of creatures and summery vibe. We all loved it. Well done Julie Preece.
