In this video, I’m talking about why assistance dogs need to be trained in specific mitigating tasks. These tasks are what make a dog more than just well behaved, they’re what allow them to genuinely support a disabled handler and meet the legal definition of an assistance dog in the UK. It’s an important part of the conversation, whether you’re training or just keen to understand more.

(Also, I’m a bit nervous putting this out there, so thank you for watching!) 🐾

I’ll never understand why someone would choose to use painful tools on a dog that’s dedicated its life to helping them. Assistance dogs aren’t equipment — they’re living beings who give us freedom, support, and unconditional love.

Tools like prong collars and shock devices can cause physical injuries like bruising, neck damage, and chronic pain. But just as harmful is the emotional toll: fear, stress, and confusion that erodes the trust between a dog and their handler.

A dog that helps you live a better life should never have to suffer to do it.

Treat them with kindness. Choose compassion over control.

Infographic ID: A flat-style illustration showing a concerned person looking sadly at their assistance dog, who is wearing a prong collar and looks equally distressed. Bold text above reads: “I don’t understand why people use tools that hurt on their assistance dogs.” Below, the message continues: “A dog that helps you live a better life should be treated with kindness.”

🌡️ Training Cancelled Due to Extreme Heat 🌡️

With training sessions cancelled last week because of the extreme temperatures I thought I’d take a moment to speak about dangers to our dogs.

Over the past few days, I’ve seen so many dogs out walking, at shows, and even taking part in training. I know how dedicated we all are to keeping our dogs active, but in this kind of heat, it simply isn’t worth the risk.

Dogs can’t regulate their temperature the way we can. They don’t sweat like us, and once they start overheating, it can escalate quickly and become life threatening. Flat faced breeds, older dogs, puppies, and those with health conditions are especially at risk, but all dogs are at risk in these high temperatures.

Let’s not take chances. Stay safe, stay cool, and keep your dogs inside. This is our plan for the heat, Arnold snoozing happily in front of his fan 😴💨🐾

More chicken selfies. The black one was called roast and the left was called bark 😂

These chickens were a little bit awesome. They used to lay eggs on my kitchen floor, fight off the post man, take down the cats that wanted to catch them, knock on the kitchen window with their beaks when I was cooking, get into the neighbours garden when she was sunbathing (she was terrified of birds) and of course perch on a human. Come to think of it they were little feathered terrors

This week I completely failed to get pictures of all the four pawed superheroes.

But I did manage to get one. Meet fraggle the moyen poodle. He is a wonderful calm boy and his loose lead walking skills were amazing! I am looking forward to seeing what Fraggle achieves

🐶 STOP COUNTER SURFING! 🐾

Is your dog helping themselves to snacks on the kitchen counters? Here are three simple strategies to prevent counter surfing:

✅ Make the floor reinforcing – reward your dog for keeping all four paws on the ground.
✅ Teach a settle on a mat – give them a relaxing alternative spot to hang out in the kitchen.
✅ Don’t leave food on work surfaces – prevention is powerful!

With consistency and the right setup, you can teach your dog that staying on the floor really pays off.

📸 Photo ID: An illustrated infographic titled “Dog Counter Surfing” on a bright orange background. It shows three cartoon-style brown dogs in different scenarios: one being rewarded with treats on the floor, one calmly lying on a mat, and one looking up at food left on a kitchen counter. The Lifeline K9s logo appears in the bottom right corner.

Does your dog refuse to drop things they shouldn’t have?

You’re not alone! Lots of dogs love to grab and hold onto things like socks, toys, or random treasures. Check back tomorrow for a super simple, force free way to teach your dog to drop items willingly, without stress or frustration.

Note: If your dog is showing signs of resource guarding, please work with a qualified behaviourist to keep everyone safe and supported.
