PLEASE stop walking your dogs in this heat ☀️🐾

I say this with care, not judgment, but I am still seeing dogs being walked in the middle of the day, and it’s genuinely worrying.

As an animal behaviourist, I have sadly known more than one dog die from heatstroke. It happens far quicker than people realise, and once symptoms start, it can become fatal within minutes.

Dogs do not need a walk if the weather is unsafe. Missing one or two walks will not harm them, heatstroke can.

Instead, try:
Snuffle mats, puzzle toys, scent games, and short training sessions
Frozen Kongs, Lickimats, ice treats, and cooling mats
Fans, shaded rooms, damp towels, and paddling pools

Mental enrichment is often more tiring than a walk anyway.

If you do need to take them out:
🌅 Go very early or late evening
🌳 Stay on grass and in shade
🐾 Keep it short and slow
✋ If the pavement is too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws

Big news from us at Educating Pets! 🐾

After years of incredible work, Cassius is officially retiring ❤️

Cass has been by my side helping train so many dogs, from reactive dogs to playful ones and puppies, and has also helped people overcome their fear of dogs. He’s made such a difference and will be hugely missed.

Now it’s time to introduce Fenrir ❤️ our newest team member and Cass’s successor!

Fenrir will be joining me at schools, Scouts, and clubs across the county delivering dog safety sessions, as well as appearing in demonstrations at country fairs and events across the country. He’ll also be starting his journey towards becoming a Pets As Therapy (PAT) dog 🐶

We’re so excited for this next chapter and can’t wait for you all to meet him!

I’m incredibly honoured to have been invited to the QBE (Quintessential British Events) to deliver not just one, but three live demonstrations across Saturday and Sunday!

Throughout the weekend, I’ll be sharing my passion for dogs and helping people better understand the incredible bond we can build with them. My sessions will cover:

🐾 Essential Tricks Every Dog Should Know – From practical everyday skills to fun, engaging behaviours that build focus, trust, and communication.

It’s going to be an amazing opportunity to connect with fellow dog lovers, share knowledge, and celebrate everything that makes our dogs so special.

☀️ Looking after our dogs in the warmer weather 🐾

As the weather warms up, I start to see more dogs struggling with the heat, most of which is completely preventable with a few small changes.

At this time of year, I work 8am–8pm, seven days a week so I can support owners during the cooler, safer parts of the day and help keep dogs comfortable.

Things to watch out for:
-Hot pavements can burn paws
- Midday walks can quickly lead to overheating
- Dogs can become overwhelmed more easily in the heat

Simple ways to keep your dog safe:
-Walk early morning or later in the evening
- Check the ground before you head out
- Bring water and take regular breaks
- Stick to shaded areas where possible
- Keep an eye out for heavy panting, slowing down, or reluctance to walk

From a behaviour point of view, dogs that are too hot or uncomfortable are far more likely to struggle, so keeping them cool really does make a difference to how they cope day to day.

Let’s look out for our dogs (and each other) and help them enjoy the sunshine safely ☀️🐶💛

Our third visit to the care home today with our certified therapy dog 🐾

Each visit is becoming more meaningful as we build genuine connections with residents, seeing familiar faces light up, sharing special moments, and bringing comfort through companionship. Today was filled with smiles, gentle cuddles, and lots of wagging tails!

Therapy dog visits aren’t just a one-time experience, they create lasting relationships and ongoing wellbeing benefits for residents.

🐾 Dog Safety at Beavers – Coningsby 🐾

Yesterday I had the pleasure of visiting a fantastic Beavers group in Coningsby to deliver a dog safety session! I also brought along a PAT certified dog, who was a brilliant helper throughout 🐶

We covered:
✔️ How to read a dog’s body language
✔️ The correct way to approach a dog
✔️ What to do (and what not to do) around dogs

The group were amazing, so engaged, asked great questions, and really took everything on board 👏

Each child received a dog safety sticker at the end for doing such a great job 🌟

These sessions are so important for helping children stay safe and confident around dogs, and I love being able to deliver them in a fun, interactive way.

I’m excited to be launching small group puppy training sessions at the beautiful Fika Secret Garden Café☕🌿

These classes will be held weekly in a real-life café setting, helping your puppy learn how to stay calm, focused, and well-behaved around everyday distractions, where it really matters!

🐾 Suitable for puppies up to 6 months
🐾 Small groups (maximum of 8 per class) for a supportive, personalised experience
🐾 Focus on confidence, basic obedience, and calm behaviour in public
