Sorry for going quiet!

Life has been full in the best way, but I've missed sharing these little moments with you. 🐾

Today on a walk, a gentleman stopped me to say: "I can see you haven't forgotten that the walks are for them, not for us."

This persona has probably seen me parked in the same patch of grass for a good 5 minutes, while someone very important conducted a very thorough sniff investigation on a long lead.

And honestly? It felt like an eternity, but that one comment made my whole day.

I smiled all the way back, and remembered that: this is the whole point 🌿

Thank you stranger ❤️

Big news🎉🐾

Treat and Trail has been selected for INCO CatalyseHer UK 2026, supported by the Foundation in partnership with .entrepreneurs , and I couldn't be more grateful❤️!!!

Treat and Trail is a canine wellness business based in Lincoln, UK. We specialised in care for reactive, anxious and sensitive dogs, as well as puppies, adolescents and every dog in between.

Built in honour of my own reactive dog who passed away in 2023, this business exists because I know first-hand what it feels like when your dog is misunderstood, and no one wants to take care of them.

This programme is more than a business opportunity. It's proof that building something with heart, purpose and a little courage can open doors you never expected.

Honoured, excited and ready 🌱

This is Ignatius. He has gone viral after hu***ng his bed while performing at Crufts 2026.

But here's what's actually happening.

What looks like comedy is almost certainly displacement behaviour.

When a dog is stressed, confused, or overwhelmed, they often redirect that tension into a physical outlet: hu***ng, digging, spinning, excessive licking. It's not disobedience or "being funny."

It's a dog telling us, "I'm not okay right now."

In Ignatius's case, he was likely experiencing:

❌️Audience stress: being watched and potentially laughed at
❌️Conflicting pressure: commands he may not have fully understood
❌️Physical handling: being dragged along with his bed, which adds confusion and anxiety
❌️Emotional overload: obedience sessions can be genuinely hard for small dogs with big

The pup wasn't failing the training. The training was failing the dog.

Before sharing a "funny dog video," it's worth asking: is this a dog having fun, or a dog struggling to cope?

Understanding the difference is how we become better advocates for our animals 🌿

Today I'm celebrating the women who walk beside me, and all the women who shape the world in quiet, powerful ways.

The ones who care, who support, who adapt, who create space for others, and who keep going even when life feels heavy.

In my family, in my work, and in my community, I see strength, softness, resilience and an ability to grow through whatever comes.

Today is the moment to acknowledge all that!

Happy International Women's Day to every woman, in every story 💜

Do dogs notice when our routines change?

Yes, and often more than we realise.

Dogs are incredibly tuned in to patterns:
time, movement, energy, smells, habits.

Even small changes can feel big to them.

Some dogs are more sensitive than others.
Puppies and adolescent dogs especially tend to notice changes more intensely. Their brains are still developing, particularly the areas involved in emotional regulation and impulse control, which means reactions can feel sudden, messy or hard to explain.
Add hormones, growing bodies, learning how to cope with the world…
and things can tip over quickly.

This blurry photo is intentional.

It shows one of my clients having a difficult session. His mum had been away the day before, and he was struggling to regulate. Nothing dramatic happened, but he felt the change, and it showed.

Moments like this aren’t about “bad behaviour”.
They’re information.

When routines shift, behaviour can shift too.

Our job is to notice, adapt, and support, not to push through.

Save this for the next time things feel “off”
or share it with someone wondering why their dog feels different.

Welcome to this second post on: If your dog could talk.

Slide through.
Notice the clues.

Trust what you see before you jump to “behaviour”.

Yes… proper dramatic moment.

I locked myself in the bathroom and had a little cry (not true, a massive cry) after a training session with my own dog.

The kind of moment where you sit on the floor staring at the tiles like they might offer emotional support or the secrets of canine behaviour.

It wasn’t about her doing anything wrong. It was about me feeling overwhelmed.
I wanted to help her, I wanted things to make sense, and I didn’t know how to bridge the gap between what she needed and what I thought I was supposed to be doing. It was one of those days where everything felt a bit too much.

Looking back, I see it differently now. Not as failure, but as a moment of honesty. A moment where two beings were trying to understand each other and neither of us had the full picture yet.

Over time, things softened. I learned to stop forcing routines that didn’t work. I learned that walks can be shorter. That plans can change. That progress can be slow and still be progress. I learned to listen to both sides, mine and hers, and to build something that worked for both of us. Real compromise, not pressure.

Bad days still happen, but they don’t knock me down the same way. They feel like part of the process. Part of learning. Part of figuring out how to live alongside another creature with their own needs and emotions.

And honestly, I’m grateful for that version of me sitting on the bathroom floor. She wasn’t dramatic. She was just human. And she helped me understand what compassion really looks like.

Happy Lunar New Year to everyone celebrating 🧧

This year welcomes the energy of the Fire Horse. And it felt like the perfect moment to talk about one of the most iconic figures many people associate with dogs.

The statues often called Foo Dogs. These when introduced to Western travellers, their stylised manes, posture and expressions reminded them of strong guardian dogs.

But, they were lions!

Traditionally placed at entrances of temples, homes and important buildings, they symbolise protection and prosperity, standing watch to keep families safe.

I love how, no matter the place or the time, the image remains familiar: an animal beside us, protecting, guiding and sharing life.

Some things never change 💛

Save this for your next cultural curiosity moment and share it with a fellow dog lover.

For Dottie, the outside world hasn’t always felt easy. Walks could feel big, noisy and unpredictable.

Little by little, Dottie is learning to breathe, look around, and enjoy being out.

She shares life with her sister, Maisie, who she adores and learns from.

Now we are working with them together so everyone can feel calmer and more confident.

And her mums? Amazing❤️

They practise, they listen, and they show up for their girls every day.

This is real progress 🌿
