The Rucksack Walk

Paisley (Pale Jumper) is approaching 2 years old. She's a working cocker x cavalier and loooooves to chase birds, as most spaniels & Gundogs do! Although she spotted the swans just before I got my phone out, I then struggled to get her to pay them any attention at all for the video. She's learnt from a tiny puppy that being close to me is where the fun stuff happens. This allows her to have so much freedom as I know she'll make the right choices.

Way back in April 2019 I did an inperson 6 day practical course with the IMDT Members Only covering many different training disciplines. We covered Scent work, tracking, flyball and Norwegian Bringsel, as well as covering many other training topics such as Resource Guarding, Separation Anxiety and Predatory Motor patterns.

Part of the course included HOOPERS taught by a fellow IMDT trainer Carrie-Anne from Canine hoopers world.

To top up my knowledge of the sport I recently completed an online theory course and can now proudly call myself a Hoopers instructor!

Classes will start in the new year at Farrowby Farm where I've Joined with Angella at Completely Canines Dog Training to offer training classes to local dog owners.

10 weeks of training and then a 50+ question assessment to gain each certificate! It wasn't easy but it was worth it! Another couple of training qualifications under the belt.

These are the leads ans longlines I use! Highly recommend as wipeable light weight and don’t get wet ans soggy! Also tangle less than material ones and easier to see on the ground

Hi everyone,

I’m going to point out something here that’s really really important and in fact is ruining dogs across the country.

And that is the fact that people still think they need to ‘dominate’ their dogs or show them ‘whos boss’ or stop them wanting to ‘take over’

This is absolutely incorrect.

There is no dominance.

We found out quite a few years ago now that Wolves (who dogs share a common ancestor with) have ZERO dominance hierarchy.

They do NOT live in a world where they’re trying to dominate each other.
They live in a family group... a social group who are all related.

The dominance theory was coined because the scientists early on put together a group of unrelated young male Wolves in captivity who all started to fight because they were stressed.

They studied these.

They did not study them in the wild.

Eventually they realised this was inaccurate - that the wild Wolves in a natural environment living normally in family groups did NOT have any kind of dominance hierarchy.

There is a breeding pair and then the offspring.

No one is trying to ‘take over’. There is no ‘Alpha’.

Old school trainers have not updated their methods because they haven’t studied or they don’t care about the myth de-bunking.
For us humans it makes sense in our minds that we need to be the ‘boss’ and punish and all of this rubbish because... that’s how we deal with people.

However it’s not the case.. we need to understand and support our dogs.

If you are using any kind of supposed ‘rank reduction’ techniques or dominance based training then you are simply being cruel.

And it’s absolute rubbish.

Your dog does not have a clue - it will just feel intimidated and scared.
