We just can’t stress this enough - the weather right now and over the next few days is TOO HOT to take any chances at all with our beloved furry friends.

DO NOT:

• Walk your dog - unless it is very early in the morning or late at night when the temperature has dropped significantly

• Take your dog on family days out. It may be fun for you but not for them! Leave them at home in a cool area

• Let your dog off lead to run

• Take your dog anywhere in a car unless you absolutely have to (ie essential vet appointments).

• Let your dog play on artificial grass, concrete or tarmac with no shade

• Allow your dog to play with a hose or spend too much time “chasing” and swallowing water due to the risk of water intoxication

• EVER leave your dog locked in a car, conservatory or garden (even though you may think that is a safer option, it’s not safe) for any length of time - again any of these can prove fatal very quickly. “Not long” is too long!

DO:

• Provide plenty of fresh drinking water at all times

• Ensure your dog has shaded indoor and outdoor areas to rest, with air flow

• Consider cool mats, cooling collars and bandanas

• Provide a paddling pool if possible, to allow for cooling paw and belly dips

• Check your dog regularly for signs of heatstroke

• Call the vet immediately if you have any concerns whatsoever

The risks are just too high for UK dogs who are not acclimatised to this level of heat. Young, old, obese or flat faced dogs are especially at risk but in these temperatures ANY DOG can die. Enjoy the warm weather but please don’t let your dog suffer! Heatstroke can be fatal but it can be prevented with careful planning and regular monitoring of your dog. Take care of your precious friends, they can’t do it themselves and they can’t tell us when they feel sick.

⭐️Star of the week!⭐️

We are endlessly proud to announce that after over 6 weeks with multiple surgeries, dressing changes three times weekly, and daily medications, Gustav is our star of the week!
He has made fantastic progress, thanks to the amazing dedication of his owners and his boundless enthusiasm, and we are hopeful to see him without his foot dressing very soon ❤️

⭐️Star of the week!⭐️

This is lovely Luna! Luna presented to us earlier this year, unwell with symptoms of a pyometra. Pyometra is an infection in the womb, and can be life threatening if not treated quickly. Typically we see this condition in unspayed female dogs over 7 years of age, but Luna was unlucky enough to be diagnosed at under 18 months of age!

Symptoms of pyometra can include:
- Creamy or bloody vulval discharge
- Excessive thirst and urination
- Vomiting
- Lethargy
- Abdominal discomfort
- Inappetance

Thankfully, Luna’s owners spotted her symptoms quickly and we were able to perform an emergency spay, to remove her infected womb and her ovaries.
Spaying female dogs eliminates the risk of pyometra, and this is one of several reasons we recommend routine neutering of female dogs. 🐾

After a few issues with reactions to suture materials delaying Luna’s healing, we are so pleased to say that she is finally healed and able to return to her well deserved pampered life! ❤️Well done little Luna! ❤️

⭐️Star of the week!⭐️

Harvey is our very well deserved star of the week! He is a beautiful 3 legged ginger boy and was brought to us yesterday after his owners noticed he was lethargic and not eating well.

In the last 48 hours he has undergone blood tests, intravenous fluid therapy and ultrasound scans to understand the cause of his issues, and he could not possibly have been better behaved!
We adore you Harvey, and we were so thrilled to see you enjoying some tuna by the end of the day!

⭐️Star of the week!⭐️ Teddy came in today for his regular sedated groom and we think he looks incredibly handsome! Teddy, like a few of our patients, has quite a difficult relationship with groomers and clippers and after attempting different methods to avoid his stress we now see him at scheduled intervals for a full shave down under sedation, to prevent him from getting distressed. We look forward to seeing him again for his next transformation once his impressive mane has regrown! 🦁
