🐶 Why Teaching Recall Early is a Game-Changer for Your Puppy 🐾
One of the most important skills you can teach your puppy is recall - coming when called. It’s more than just a cute party trick - it’s a lifesaving command that helps keep your pup safe and gives them more freedom to explore the world with you.
🔑 The key? Start early. Puppies are naturally curious and eager to bond, which makes recall training easier and more effective during those early months.
Here are a few pro tips to get you started:
✅ Make it fun! Always reward your puppy with high-value treats, praise, or play when they come to you, even if it took them a while. You want them to associate “come!” with awesome things.
✅ Start small. Begin in a quiet space with few distractions before gradually increasing the challenge (like adding distance or practicing at the park).
✅ Never call to punish. If your puppy thinks coming to you means the end of playtime or getting scolded, they’ll be less likely to respond next time.
✅ Use a consistent cue. Whether it’s “come,” “here,” or a whistle, stick with it and be consistent with your rewards, too.
Teaching recall takes patience and practice, but the payoff is huge: a confident, responsive dog who can enjoy more off-leash freedom and stay safe doing it.
