We understand that leaving your pet with us while they have surgery can be worrying, especially if you do not know what to expect when you come to collect them. ๐Ÿฉบ

When you first bring your pet home after their general anaesthetic, they may be quiet and sleepy, so do not be alarmed.

They will usually be much brighter the following day.

Your pet may also have an area of clipped fur and stitches to monitor, so be prepared to check their surgical wound regularly.

Most pets will also go home with medications for you to give while they recover, to make sure they are comfortable.

If you are worried about your petโ€™s upcoming surgery, do not hesitate to contact us.

Did you know that dogs, cats, and rabbits benefit from vaccinations tailored to their needs to protect them against several severe and potentially fatal diseases? ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿฐ

Many of these diseases are highly infectious, so they can spread easily between pets, and may require intensive veterinary care, which can be expensive, and thereโ€™s a risk of your pet not surviving.

So, what are the benefits of vaccinating your pet?

๐Ÿ’‰ To protect pets from severe illness.

๐Ÿ’‰ To prevent spreading diseases to other animals.

๐Ÿ’‰ To meet the requirements of boarding kennels and catteries.

๐Ÿ’‰ To protect you, too โ€“ Some diseases that we vaccinate against are zoonotic, so they can be spread to people. These include leptospirosis and rabies (if your pet travels abroad).

If your pet is due for vaccinations, get in touch to arrange an appointment.

5th January marks National Bird Day! ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿฆœ๐Ÿ“

Today is all about celebrating our feathered friends - from lovebirds to parrots, birds bring colour, joy and plenty of wit into our lives!

National Bird Day is also a chance to raise awareness about their long-term care needs. Some parrot species can live for over 50 years, meaning that they require years of love, attention and enrichment.

Caring for a bird isnโ€™t just about feeding them - itโ€™s about giving them social interaction, mental stimulation and a safe place to enjoy their lives to the fullest! โค๏ธ

Letโ€™s celebrate birds by appreciating their beauty and respecting their long lifespans.

Weโ€™d love to fill the comments below with photos of your birds on a day that is all about them!

Have you heard of gas bubble disease in fish? ๐Ÿ

This disease can affect both aquarium and pond fish. It happens when their water contains high levels of dissolved gases, which can then form gas bubbles under the skin, eyes and gills.

These bubbles can cause serious discomfort and health problems.

We recommend routinely testing your water and keeping your pumps and filters well maintained.

If you do notice any strange bubbles or lumps, contact us for an appointment.

He has Bengal type markings and unfortunately is not microchipped. If you think he might belong to you, or you know who his owners are, please call us on 0114 2470828.

Thank you ๐Ÿงก

Calling all bird owners! ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿฆœ

We all know that our feathered friends are clever creatures, so have you thought about training them to sit on the scales?

This can help to track their weight over time and work on any extra weight gain quickly. Obesity in birds can cause a number of health concerns, so keeping them at their ideal weight is key.

Unsure if your bird is overweight? Book an appointment and we can take a look for you.

If youโ€™re a pet owner, veterinary pills are something youโ€™ll probably have to handle at some point or another.

Here are some important tips:

๐Ÿ’Š Always use medication as prescribed by us.

๐Ÿ’Š Donโ€™t keep your petโ€™s medication with your own medications, as this can lead to unfortunate accidents.

๐Ÿ’Š Never use expired medication.

๐Ÿ’Š If you have veterinary medication that you no longer need, you can safely dispose of it by bringing it to us.

๐Ÿ’Š Most importantly, never medicate your pet without our advice.
