Why Your Dog Ignores Recall.....

Your dog isn’t ignoring you to be “stubborn.” Most of the time, the environment is simply more rewarding than coming back to you.

Outside, your dog is competing with:
🐿️ other animals
👃 exciting smells
🐕 other dogs
🌳 new environments
🎾 distractions everywhere

If recall only works indoors or in the garden, it usually means your dog hasn’t fully learned the behaviour around distractions yet. Your dog should believe returning to you is the best option every time.

To improve recall:

✔ Start in low-distraction environments
✔ Use high-value rewards
✔ Keep recalls short and successful
✔ Practice consistently
✔ Make coming back feel exciting

Reliable recall isn’t built in one session. It is built through repetition, trust, and positive experiences

Missing all my dogs so much already 😅 Just wanted to say a big thank you to all clients who have gifted beautiful items for baby - completely unexpected and incredibly kind of you all.

Due to a recent influx of training enquiries, I thought I’d share a couple of trusted recommendations while I’m off, as I may not respond to messages as quickly for a while:

For my regular walking clients, I’ll be in touch in February next year to get everything set back up, with a view to restarting in March. I would like to thank Louise at who walks my own dog and I trust whole heartedly for covering some of my dogs whilst I'm off. Very much appreciated ❤️

Hello 👋 Whilst I may be starting mat leave soon I thought I'd reintroduce myself!

My journey into animal behaviour didn’t start with dogs—it started with a passion for horses. Everything changed during my Master’s in Applied Anthrozoology (Human–Animal Interactions) in 2017, where I discovered a deep interest in canine behaviour, welfare, and the human–dog bond.

Since then I have travelled (wanting to take all stray dogs home with me) and had some interesting jobs. I then ended up working at a fantastic doggie daycare that really enabled me to be where I am today which I will be forever grateful for.

Pawsitive Leads is really one of my proudest achievements. Running a business definitely has its highs and lows but the good definitely outweighs the bad.
I’ve dedicated my work to helping people better understand and connect with their dogs. Through personalised 1:1 sessions, I support owners in overcoming challenges, building positive habits, and creating strong training foundations.

Alongside this, I offer professional dog walking services focused on enrichment, exercise, and genuine care—because every dog deserves to thrive. Helping dogs and their humans live happier, more harmonious lives is at the heart of everything I do.
