โœจ **Happy dogs. Happy humans. Waggy tails everywhere.** โœจ

Week two of our **Scent Games** course was all about introducing our teams to the wonderful world of **Tracking**... and what a joy it was to watch!

Within minutes, noses were down, tails were wagging and every dog was completely absorbed in the game. It never ceases to amaze me just how naturally dogs take to scent work. After all, using their nose is what they were born to do.

One of the things I love most about this course is that we don't just stick to one activity. Over the four weeks, everyone gets to try **Scent Detection, Tracking and Mantrailing**, giving both dogs and their humans a chance to discover which games they enjoy the most.

The best bit? You don't need a "working breed" or a highly trained dog to enjoy scent work. Whether your dog is young or old, tiny or giant, full of beans or prefers life in the slow lane, there's something for everyone.

And these aren't just games for the classroom. Many of the ideas we teach can be taken home or out on your daily walks, turning ordinary moments into little adventures that build confidence, strengthen your partnership and give your dog the chance to use their incredible nose.

Watching a dog light up when they realise they've solved the puzzle is one of the best feelings in the world. ๐Ÿ’›

I honestly think every dog should have the opportunity to experience the joy of scent work. ๐Ÿพ

**"Stop distracting your dog..." ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿพ**
..well, not all the time.

That probably sounds like a strange thing for a dog trainer to say!

Don't get me wrong - there are absolutely times when asking for a "Look at me", playing a game or moving your dog away from something is the right thing to do.

But if we rely on distraction every single time our dogs notice something interesting, exciting or worrying...
..when do they actually get chance to process their world?

Dogs are natural observers.

They watch.

They listen.

They sniff.

They gather information.

Imagine walking through a busy park with a friend, but every time you looked at something interesting they said:

*"Don't look over there... look at me instead!"*

You'd probably feel a bit frustrated!

Sometimes the most valuable thing we can do is simply stop...
..loosen the lead...
..take a breath...
..and let our dogs watch.

At a distance where they can still think.

At a distance where they can still respond if we need them to.

Watching isn't "doing nothing."

It's learning.

It's information gathering.

It's how dogs begin to realise that the world isn't nearly as exciting - or as scary - as they first thought.

The trick isn't stopping our dogs noticing life...

It's helping them learn that they don't need to react to everything they notice.

Sometimes the best training happens when we say absolutely nothing at all. โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ

**"We didn't teach a single sit today..." ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿพ**
..and yet, we had a brilliant first day of classes!

The first session of any course is always a little different. Before we ask our dogs to learn anything, we spend time helping their humans understand *how* dogs learn.

So today we talked about...

๐Ÿš— Why dog training is a bit like learning to drive (yes, really!)

๐Ÿ‘ƒ Why sniffing is one of the most important things your dog can do.

๐Ÿ• The difference between family dogs and free-roaming dogs, and why our expectations sometimes need a little adjusting.

๐ŸŽฏ Why short, bite-sized training sessions beat marathon sessions every time.

๐Ÿฆฎ Why tight leads often make life harder rather than easier.
..and, just in case I hadn't mentioned it enough...

๐Ÿ‘ƒ Sniffing!

Did I mention sniffing? ๐Ÿ˜„

There were lots of waggy tails, some wonderful engagement between dogs and their humans, and some absolutely fabulous ears on display as everyone settled into their new surroundings.

The foundations we build in these first sessions might not look particularly exciting, but they're often the reason everything else becomes so much easier over the coming weeks.

I didn't manage to capture all of today's gorgeous new faces on camera, but I'll make up for that over the next few classes.

What a lovely way to spend a day. โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿพ We discovered something we weren't expecting... ๐Ÿ’™

When we invited our volunteer dogs back for their second visit to the Dog Enrichment Room Experience, we wondered whether they'd remember it.

One of our visitors answered that question before he'd even got through the door. ๐Ÿ˜‚

He arrived so excited to get back inside that he was trying to head straight for the scent walls before his lead had even come off!

That excitement wasn't because we'd asked him to do anything.

It wasn't because someone was waving treats around.

It was simply because he remembered.

He knew this was a place where he could sniff, search, explore, make his own choices and simply enjoy being a dog.

Watching that happen has probably been the biggest highlight of our testing.

We're making the final few tweaks based on all the wonderful feedback we've received...
..and we're almost ready to open the doors. ๐Ÿพโœจ

๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’› Another wonderful Recall & Loose Lead course comes to an endโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿพ

Last night we said goodbye to the loveliest group of dogs and humans, and what a pleasure it has been to spend the last four weeks with them.

There have been so many little breakthroughs, so many lightbulb moments, and perhaps most importantly, a real shift in understanding.

Because loose lead walking isnโ€™t just about the dog.

Itโ€™s about teamwork.

Itโ€™s about reading body language, handling the lead thoughtfully, allowing dogs the opportunity to sniff and observe, and remembering that the lead is a **seatbelt, not a steering wheel**.

Watching confidence grow on both ends of the lead has been an absolute joy, and weโ€™re already seeing some lovely changes happening out in the real world.

A huge thank you to every member of the group for embracing new ideas, asking brilliant questions and supporting one another along the way.

Hereโ€™s to calmer walks, looser leads, and many more adventures together. Weโ€™re so proud of you all! ๐Ÿ•โœจ๐Ÿ’›

๐Ÿพ Phew... what a week already! ๐Ÿพ

Four group classes down.
Three more to go.

Three private training sessions.
A Mantrailing progression trail still to come on Sunday.

June has arrived with a bang! ๐Ÿ˜…

So far this week we've welcomed dogs through:

๐Ÿถ Puppy Beginners
๐Ÿšถ Recall & Loose Lead
โญ Friday Club
๐ŸŽฉ Dazzle Dogs

And still to come tomorrow:

๐Ÿถ Puppy Beginners (Round Two!)
๐Ÿคช Terrific Teens
๐Ÿ’ช Confident Canines

It's been one of those weeks where you finally pause for a moment, look around, and realise just how many dogs and humans are learning together each week.

The launch of our new PAYG classes today was brilliant, and seeing both familiar faces and new teams enjoying themselves made all the hard work worthwhile.

We're incredibly grateful to every person who chooses to spend their time with us. Whether you're working on puppy basics, navigating adolescence, building confidence, polishing recall, or simply looking for something fun to enjoy with your dog, thank you for trusting us to be part of the journey. โค๏ธ

The irony?

We've been so busy that I haven't taken a single photo all week! ๐Ÿ“ธ๐Ÿ™ˆ

Thankfully Kay met the absolutely gorgeous little Monty earlier this week, and he was far too cute not to share. ๐Ÿ˜

Now, if you'll excuse us, we've got three more classes, a trail to run, and a weekend full of dogs ahead...

And honestly?

We wouldn't have it any other way. ๐Ÿพโค๏ธ

๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿพ Monty! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿถ

This little guy! And his teefs! ๐Ÿคญ๐Ÿฅฐ We had a lovely session seeing his confidence grow! Monty is a little unsure of the world but before we start out in the world forcing him into situations heโ€™s potentially uncomfortable inโ€ฆ we start small, simpleโ€ฆ chilled!

The difference in this little guyโ€™s body language and movement between him coming in and him leaving was night and day!

Well done little man, you did so well, see you again soon at The Keighley Canine Collective๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿถ
