Maximise the bloom of your Hellebores this winter
#
Hellebores — also known as Christmas roses — are winter garden stars, but a little extra care can keep them flowering beautifully for longer:
💧 Consistent moisture, not soggy soil – Hellebores prefer well-drained soil. Water during dry spells, but avoid waterlogging, which can cause root rot.
☀️ Right light conditions – Plant in partial to full shade. Too much direct sun can scorch leaves, while too little light reduces flower longevity.
🌿 Prune wisely – Remove old, damaged, or diseased leaves before flowering begins. This improves air circulation, reduces disease risk, and lets the blooms take centre stage.
🌱 Feed at the right time – A gentle, balanced fertiliser in late winter or early spring supports continued growth and robust blooms.
🍂 Mulch for moisture and protection – A layer of organic mulch around the roots helps retain moisture, suppress weeds, and protect crowns from frost.
With these simple but smart steps, your Hellebores can remain a stunning feature of your winter garden, brightening dull days and lasting well into early spring.
