Hi! I’m Pebbles—yes, I am the real star here, not just “one of the big furries.” Thank you very much. 😌✨

My stay at Charlotte’s was… well, quite the adventure! Not only did I get to bring my whole house (complete with all my favourite things inside ❤️), but I also discovered there’s a lot more going on outside my cosy little lair than I expected.

One morning, I bravely poked my nose out—and that’s when I met Charlotte for the first time. There she was, freshening up my water 💧 and topping up my food 😋. I have a very special storage space for that, you know. I take food organising very seriously.

Then came the day of The Big House Clean. Honestly, the drama! I was woken up from a perfectly lovely nap and placed into a temporary home. But I can’t complain too much—it came with a climbing apparatus (yes, please), some luxurious bedding, and a box I could hide in and pretend no one could see me. Theodore stood guard the whole time like my own personal bodyguard. Very VIP.

Now, don’t be fooled by my size. I am fast. Lightning fast. Charlotte had quite the job keeping up with me—unlike the rats! I practically zoomed around the place 🏃‍♀️. I’m not saying I’m marathon-ready… but I’m also not not saying it.

When the maid—sorry, Charlotte—finally finished cleaning, I discovered I had earned myself a brand-new little house 🏠. And on the way back, I even made a friend: Serena the rat 🐀. She was so sweet! I actually stopped moving long enough to say hello, which is very rare for me. Making friends is always worth a pause.

Of course, once I was back inside my home, it was time for a full inspection:
[v] Bathing sand
[v] Water
[v] Bedding
[v] House
[v] Food
[ ] Tunnels (underground… demolished!!)

My tunnels were completely ruined. Outrageous. I had to spend hours rebuilding them—hours, I tell you! And my food stash? Tidied away! The betrayal! But… I did get a new home 🏡 and honestly, exploring it was pretty fun.

Nobody’s perfect 👌

🐶 Ruby’s Point of View — “Love, Treats & Tail Wags!” 🐾🐕

Hi everyone! It’s me — Ruby! ❤️

Oh my paws, what a welcome I gave! The moment they trotted through the door, it was all smiles, cuddles, and happy squeals. My favourite part? The little hooman! She gives the best hugs — we’re basically besties already. 💕

I’m told I have a “warm, lovely nature” — which is fancy hooman talk for I love everyone and can’t stop wagging my tail! I just want to sprinkle sunshine wherever I go. ☀️

Walks are my absolute favourite — nose down, tail up, sniffing everything! My recall? Oh, it’s excellent… especially when there’s a treat involved. 🍬🍭 I mean, who can say no to snacks, right?

I can’t wait for more adventures, more cuddles, and more yummy treats with my new hooman friends. Life’s good when you’re loved this much. ❤️

🐶 Double Trouble Diaries: The Good, The Bad, and The Muddy 🐾🐾

Roxy:💫😇
Dear Diary,
Another day, another attempt to keep Callie from turning our walk into a reality show titled “Muddy Mayhem.” I was gliding gracefully along the path, off-lead (of course), recalling perfectly like the angel I am.

Callie:😶‍🌫️😏
Meanwhile, I was making history. Saw a pond. Heard it calling my name. There was only one logical response — CANNONBALL! 💦 The lunge line tried to stop me, but I’m basically an athlete. Roxy pretended she didn’t know me. Classic.

Roxy:
Correct. One must maintain dignity. While she was dripping pond water and pride, I trotted along elegantly, pretending the chaos behind me was someone else’s Labrador.

Callie:
You say “chaos,” I say “character building.” Anyway, apparently I’m getting “Callie-proofed” out of the garden now. The hoomans are building walls. I see challenges. I see opportunities. I see… future escape routes. 🧱

Roxy:
I, on the other paw, was rewarded for my flawless behaviour with cuddles, grooming, and a pedicure. The little hoomans even shared their blankets with me. It was divine. ✨

Callie:
Oh, I got my spa day too — belly rub edition! Rolled right over, legs in the air, and made sure they reached every spot. No shame. Zero regrets.

Roxy:
You smelled like pond w**d and chaos.

Callie:
And freedom. Don’t forget freedom. 😎

Roxy:
In conclusion, dear diary:
Good girls get pampered. Bad gals get bathed.

Callie:
And life’s better when you drag a little mud into it.

Together:
Double Trouble forever — one classy, one crazy, both absolutely paw-some. 🐾💖

🐾Diaries of a Saint Bernard: Trick or Treating mayhem! 🎃🎃🐾🐾

Hi Guys,

So I just love coming to Charlotte's, there is always so much to do, I love making new friends, whether it's on walks or around the house!

If I see an opportunity, I love to sneak a snack, particularly from the children, as they are always so generous. They make alot of noise afterwards, but I'm certain it's just a game, that's why I run around with zoomies 😁

Trick or treat fun! My pumpkin outfit was awesome, I particularly loved chewing the hat! I'm certain it was supposed to be in my mouth and not on my head! Charlotte kept mixing up the outfit. I was so excited to go out for Halloween 🎃 I practically invited myself into the neighbours house! They said 'trick or Treat' I am a treat after all! 🥰 🐶

Even the cats dressed up! Turns out Bat cat is real! 🐈🦇spooktacular!

All the 🍭sweeties 🍬 gathered were hidden well out of my reach, but I did manage to grab a boneo box which my new friend Rosie had left out on the side for me! 😁😋 so generous on halloween 🎃

To finish off my stay I took a trip to see ♥️♠️Alice♥️♠️ in wonder land...as you can see I had managed to eat a magical boneo which made me huge, so I couldn't get through the cats door. I managed to get the hippopotamus, by getting my head through the door, which everyone found hilarious! Who said size matters? 🤷‍♀️ Not me! 😊🐶🐕

Diary of a German Shepherd — Ozzy’s Big Day Out 🐾
Overcoming anxiety, making friends, and a few cheeky surprises!

Hey everyone, I’m Ozzy — German Shepherd, professional ball chaser, occasional rule-maker, and full-time good boy (most of the time).

Today was epic. I went to doggy day care, and guess what? I made a brand-new best friend! 🧡

She’s a Saint Bernard — a big soft-hearted lady, just like the one who lives next door. I was a bit anxious when I got dropped off (I didn’t even get to say goodbye to my human — way too excited!), but she helped calm me down with her cool, gentle vibe.

Of course, I had a tiny moment where I thought about showing her who’s boss… but that didn’t last long. Within minutes we were zooming around the garden in giant circles, tails wagging like wind turbines!

Then came the jump scare of the century. I was at the window, telling the neighbours exactly what I thought of their lawn ornaments, when suddenly — BANG! My new friend barked right behind me! I nearly launched into orbit. Honestly, Halloween 🎃 came early that day!

Later, Charlotte took us on a glorious walk (thank you, Charlotte — you’re the best!). When my Saint Bernard buddy decided to take a mysterious detour through the bushes, I made sure to remind her of the rules when she came back. I’m a shepherd after all — order must be maintained.

I kept coming back to her to play more, but when it came to my squeaky ball… well, sharing’s still a work in progress. The squeak just does something to me — completely irresistible!

All in all, it was a day full of fun, friendship, and a few heart-pounding surprises. Can’t wait to tell you what happens next in my diary!

Notes from the Nest- Rabbit edition 🐇

Hi all,

This is always a good opportunity to introduce the complex requirements in order to meet the five welfare needs for our furry friends. Whether this is many or few.
A group of rabbits is often referred to a colony, Warren, nest or herd. Great, so what are the five welfare needs;

1. A suitable environment
2. A suitable diet
3. Normal behaivour patterns
4. Housing with or apart from other animals
5. Protection from pain, suffering, injury and disease

How can we meet these needs;
1. A suitable shelter, safe place to rest.
2. Rabbits are big big fibre eaters, hay is their main source of fibre, due to their gut motility and the constant requirement to keep this active. The majority of their diet will be hay. A small amount of pellets, some fresh herbs 🌿 and fruit as a treat from time to time. A nibble on fresh grass in the garden is also suitable.
3. Rabbits have a larger need to exercise than people realise 3 - 4 hours to be exact! Environment should allow for general mobility, jumping, stretching, playing engaging in natural behaivours. consideration is required whether indoors or outdoors. If there is no room to run, skip, stand on hind limbs to look for dangers, groom, play, even digging then these go lucky chaps are missing out.
4. Socialisation, is extremely important for these animals. Only problem is not everyone can get along, that doesn't mean complete isolation is best. Sometimes just being next door is enough to keep that Socialisation where it should be. If we can, we should get friends together so they can make the colony they most desire. Friends are always helpful for these guys.
5. This is always a tricky one, because being a prey species, they are very good at hiding symptoms till it's extremely severe. Get to know your rabbits, what is normal for their behaivour, just being around them, seeing how they behave will help with catching any slight changes. They will also pretend to eat food, even when they aren't able to, due to discomfort or ill health. Monitoring will take time. This includes the input and output of food, water, urine and faeces. Being in a colony will make this hard to manage. Bullying towards a particular member of the colony may point you in the right direction if this wasn't present before. It's always good to keep any changes to demeanour or behaivour in mind.
My rabbit has stopped eating;
This is not something that can wait, unfortunately due to the nature of their gut, and how it digests the material, bacteria doesn't take long to build up along with the gas from fermentation and cause the gut to increase in size and create pain increasing anorexia. 12 hours of anorexia is enough time to put your pet rabbit into critical emergency care and potentially death... always seek help from the veterinarian when anorexia is present.

Faecal changes;
This change will highlight the gut motility, fairly sharply. Small faeces compared to the regular sizes can be a sign of the gut motility slowing down, dehydration, pain and stress upon other concerns. Again things aren't moving, get on calling! Contact your veterinary practice for help.

These little fluff balls have lots to teach us and if we are quiet for long enough in their presence, we might just learn something!

Do not underestimate the healthy necessity the bunnies require to be at their best quality.

Top tip; whenever visiting your vet, take a lunch box of your bunnies usual diet. Their gut does not respond well to a sudden change to their food. Always best to keep things familiar for these plucky little furries. 😌 ✨️ 👌

🐾 Diary of a Saint Bernard: Confessions of a Snack Hunter 🐾

Dear fans,
It’s me — your favourite chilled-out Saint Bernard and proud regular at Charlotte’s Nest!

Every stay here feels like a five-star holiday. I get endless cuddles, adventures, and all the attention I could ever want. Charlotte’s not just any pet sitter — she’s also a qualified vet nurse, which means she knows exactly how to handle big personalities like mine (and my rather creative snacking habits).

Now, about those snacks...
🐾 Leftover cat food? Gone.
🐾 Kids’ teddies? Claimed.
🐾 Cardboard? Excellent texture.
🐾 Acorns? Tried once. Never again.
🐾 Cats bring home a rat? I call that “interactive entertainment.”

My cast-iron stomach has survived it all — and thankfully, Charlotte’s vet nurse superpowers keep me safe, happy, and healthy every time I visit. She calls me her “big, lovable chaos machine,” and honestly, I think that’s spot on.

When I’m not taste-testing the world, I love my walks (fifteen minutes of zoomies followed by a well-earned nap). I prefer people to dogs, and apparently, watching me run is “pure joy.” I’ll take that compliment.

And big news — I’ll be joining Charlotte for Halloween trick-or-treating in my very own costume! 🎃 Keep an eye out for my glamorous photoshoot — I plan to steal the show (and maybe a few treats).

If your humans ever need someone to care for you while they’re away, I can highly recommend Charlotte’s Nest — where vet knowledge meets genuine love for pets. ❤️

Love,
The Snack Queen 👑🐾

Anxiety - we all at some point in our lives have faced the sensation of stress, tension and fear; also known as our fight or flight mode. Our defence mechanism to survival. What happens when the body feels a threat but it's not life threatening? We can still be triggered. Where am I going with this!

We are not the only ones who suffer with anxiety, our animals can also go through stages of anxiety, one of which is separation anxiety; which this gorgeous boy demonstrated to me during his doggy day care.

- excessive sniffing
- panting
- pacing
- unable to relax
- intermittent vocalisation
- unable to eat his treats
- checking the door repeatedly

Approach;
1. Gave him space
2. Dropped a treat every so often
3. Allowed him to approach me when his ready
4. Played with him when he was willing to interact
5. He had his own toys, blanket and treats
Anxiety still present;
1. Let's go for a walk! 40 minutes

This really helped him relax, channeled the nervous energy into a walk, smells and after a period his posture started to soften. When we returned back to the house, he was finally able to lay down and actually sleep. Playing was more interactive, he was able to eat the treats which lay around the house from earlier.

Although this doesn't change that initial anxiety, it certainly helped him for the day. That's how important our animals mental health is. Noticing, taking action, providing a safe space, redirecting. Sound familiar? Maybe our pets are more emotionally intelligent than we give them credit for.

I'm glad I could help the owners for the day, I'm proud I was able to help reduce his anxiety and provide a safe space.

P.s. I also thoroughly enjoyed our walk!
