Lungworm in dogs! Lungworm is a particularly nasty type of parasitic worm that can be serious â even fatal â if left untreated. Unlike many other types of worms your dog is at risk of, lungworm isnât passed from dog to dog. Instead, slugs and snails are hosts, passing on to unsuspecting pets, and infects dogs when they eat them while out walking or playing. Lungworm prevention is part of our Pet Health Club membership. Read more here: https://www.myfamilyvets.co.uk/lungworm-in-dogs. If you are unsure if you are getting lungworm treatment for your dog, speak to us!
Neospora Caninum is a parasite that can infect cattle, sheep, goats and camelids. Neospora is the most commonly diagnosed cause of bovine abortion or stillbirths in the UK, and its prevalence is growing worldwide. Farm animals are at risk from infected dog faeces. Please be mindful of other animals and clean up after your dog when walking in the countryside.

It's Rabbit Awareness Week. Rabbits make great pets for families and those with busy lives. Theyâre docile, sociable, and can be trained to use a litter tray. And, of course, theyâre super cute!
For that reason, itâs easy to be seduced into buying a rabbit without thinking through your decision. Because itâs always better to make an informed decision before you welcome a new pet to your home, here are some of the things you need to know before buying a rabbit. https://www.myfamilyvets.co.uk/is-a-rabbit-the-right-pet-for-me
It's bring your dog to work day! Share a picture below...
Although rabbits originate from the western Mediterranean, theyâre not actually used to spending too much time in the red-hot sun. This is because in the wild, rabbits hide out in deep burrows where itâs cool and shaded. Hot summer days can prove dangerous to our bunnies. Here are our 5 summer tips for rabbit owners . . . https://www.myfamilyvets.co.uk/5-summer-tips-for-rabbit-owners
Donât let flystrike be an issue this summer! Get flystrike prevention for your bunny with the Pet Health Club! Not sure what flystrike is? Itâs a serious condition that can be fatal to rabbits. It happens as a result of flies laying their eggs on a rabbitâs fur. Flies do this when the fur is dirty or damp, and itâs usually the fur around the rabbitâs bottom that is affected. The eggs hatch into maggots and these maggots eat away at the rabbitâs skin, which can lead to severe infection and in some cases, death. Itâs preventable with regular treatment and ensuring your rabbitâs hutch is clean and their bottom is clean! https://bit.ly/PracticePetHealthClub
Happy Father's Day!
How's your knowledge of fleas? People often think if you can't see fleas on your pet, then there's no need to worry. However, this is not often the case. Fleas jump so quickly that it can be impossible to see them on your pet and often owners will only know if they notice flea dirt on their pet (đ€ą). When you see fleas on your pet, it's normally because the parasite treatment you've given them has started to work and they've slowed down. This is why giving regular flea treatment is important, to keep those pesky parasites off our floofy pets. Pet Health Club has got you covered, with year-round protection for fleas, ticks, worms and any other icky parasites that may be lurking in your area. https://bit.ly/PracticePetHealthClub

Your dogâs annual injections include vaccination against parvo, so itâs vital to keep these up to protect your pet against this serious infection. Puppies can be vaccinated against canine parvovirus from around six weeks old. As well as protecting your dog or puppy against this nasty and potentially serious disease, regular vaccination is required by kennels and pet insurers as a condition of cover. Fashion or function? Luckily itâs easy to achieve both when it comes to keeping dogs warm during winter walks. Some dog breeds feel the cold more than others, especially those with a short coat. It can be beneficial for some dogs to wear a dog coat outside in the colder months. Weâd love you to send us a photo of your dog wearing their winter coat in the comments section below, or contact the practice for advice.
When walking your dog in the dark, make sure that both you and your dog are visible to others. For owners, this means avoiding dark clothing and wearing reflective safety gear such as a vest, strap or wristband. There are several options for keeping your dog visible in the dark, such as a reflective dog jacket, collar, lead, harness or even an LED light-up safety necklace. Dogs with darker fur are more difficult to see in the dark. However, even if you have a lighter coloured dog, you should make sure your dog can be seen in the dark.

Dental care is very important in cats and they require regular dental care to prevent the build-up of plaque. We recommend brushing your cat's teeth 2-3 times a week. Watch our video guide on how to brush your cat's teeth.
Brushing your cat's teeth can be quite tricky, as some cats may not allow you near their mouth. But if it is possible, it can help minimise issues as they get older. https://www.myfamilyvets.co.uk/how-to-brush-your-cats-teeth
