On Friday we officially opened the extension to the car park at the Village Hall. The ribbon was cut by ex-parish councillors, Mr Len Neale, who had done much of the work on the extension.

FROM TODAY! Parking is *FREE* from 12 noon in our Ashbourne pay & display car parks for the remainder of the six-week school summer holidays until 7 September.

Digital signage has been located on the main routes into Ashbourne to make sure visitors know about the concession.

Since 28 July it's been free to park after 2pm in Ashbourne - and of course Derbyshire Dales residents can in any case use their permit to park free before 11am and after 3pm every day of the year.

Parking is also free for the first 30 minutes in all of our town centre pay and display car parks across the Derbyshire Dales.

We've now recalibrated Ashbourne's pay and display machines and the PaybyPhone software to recognise free parking from noon. All the machines already had a “free from 2pm” calibration due to the annual December free parking initiative we have operated for the past 17 years.

This District Council initiative recognises the current exceptional circumstances in Ashbourne caused by Derbyshire County Council's improvement works in the town centre as part of the partnership Ashbourne Reborn programme.

High streets have been operating within a difficult economic climate for some time. Works in Ashbourne have also coincided with recent national changes to the minimum wage, national insurance, and a reduction in business rate relief for retail, hospitality and leisure businesses.

BINS UPDATE| Bin collections will start an hour earlier, from 6am, on Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th August due to the high temperatures forecast.

Any residents waiting for recovery of a missed bin, are urged to leave their bin out, in case of an earlier collection.

Bright, hot summer days are what many of us look forward to, however, while we're enjoying the warm days of summer, we shouldn't forget that sometimes the temperature can get too high and, for our crews, it can become dangerously hot.

Please ensure that your bin is out the night before your scheduled collection day or prior to 6am on the morning, we will return if your bin is not out when we come to collect it, however we are urging all residents to get the message out residents and neighbours who are not on social media.

Please keep your bins washed out and clean, especially during periods of hot weather.

Thank you for your continued support. 🙏

We have received several reports about a fallen tree on the bridleway between Intakes Lane and Muggington Lane. This matter needs to be reported to the Derbyshire County Council the link is below:

Overgrown hedges and surface vegetation can cause inconvenience to walkers and therefore we will work with landowners to keep this interference to a minimum.
