Donaldson's Vets In 2001 the purpose-built Birchencliffe surgery was opened. In 2008 the surgery was extended to incorporate the brand new animal rehabilitation centre (ARC).

It’s modern, spacious design includes a large waiting room, 3 consult rooms, large surgical preparation area with 2 operating theatres, dental suite, radiography and ultrasonography which combined with a fully equipped lab provide excellent non-invasive diagnostics. The centre, run by vet Rhona Warnock, has everything from underwater treadmills and hydrotherapy pool to acupuncture and ultrasonic m

Halloween is just around the corner, but while you're preparing for trick-or-treaters, don't forget about your furry friends! 🍬🎃

Here are some essential Halloween tips to ensure your pets stay safe

🎃Create a snug, safe sanctuary for your furry friend in a quiet room to keep them stress-free and safe, preventing sneaky escapes.

👻Get your pet ready for Halloween by ensuring they have a collar with an ID tag and a microchip with up-to-date info. This way, if they do escape, you have the best chance of reuniting quickly!

🧟‍♀️If your pet is a bundle of nerves when the ghouls and goblins come out, chat with your vet about some fast-acting calming medications or pheromone diffusers. Let’s help them enjoy the night just like you do!

🍫Keep those tempting sweets far out of reach! Many Halloween sweets can be dangerous, especially chocolate or if they contain an artificial sweetener (xylitol). If your sneaky pet does eat any of these, contact your vet right away!

🕷 Planning to dress up your pet? Be careful and choose costumes that are both fun and safe! Ensure there are no chewable parts and that your pet can move freely and breathe easily.
If your furry friend looks uncomfortable, don’t hesitate—it's time to let them out of that costume.

🦴Halloween decorations, keep those wires, batteries, and glow sticks, artificial cobwebs and any small parts well out of reach of paws and playful teeth. Let’s enjoy a night filled with frightful fun, not a dash to the vet!

Did you know that a staggering 4.1 million dogs are anxious when fireworks light up the sky? Is your furry friend one of them? 💥💥💥

The main signs of anxiety to look out for in dogs are:

Trembling/shaking
Salivating
Hiding
Panting
Pacing/restlessness
Inappropriate toileting in the house/car
Clingy behaviour
Escape attempts
Destruction
Lack of appetite
Increased vocalisation
Excessive yawning
Lip licking
Showing the whites of the eyes/"whale eye"

Create foraging options, scatter greens throughout their habitat, inviting them to explore.

Add to that a selection of engaging toys and stimulating puzzles to keep them entertained for hours.

Don’t forget about the tunnels. Cosy hideaways can be made from cardboard tubes and boxes, creating an adventurous playground. These simple additions can bring joy to your guinea pig's life

It’s Day 1 of Guinea Pig Awareness Week 2025! 🐹💚

This year’s theme is all about comfort, care, and companionship.

Recognising the signs of stress in guinea pigs is so important. Stress can come from inadequate housing, poor diet, improper handling, or lack of companionship.

By spotting the signs early, we can make a big difference to their well-being.

Indicators of stress in guinea pigs may include behaviours such as hiding, reduced appetite, excessive grooming, and changes in normal routines, including alterations in sleeping and toileting habits.

Behavioural changes may also present as increased aggression, teeth chattering, or repetitive activities, such as chewing on cage bars or engaging in circling behaviour
