Take a look at this lucky fella! 🦊

He was found wedged tight between a fence and a wall – scared, and suffering with mange.

Beth headed straight out on a solo rescue! I told her to call the fire brigade if she needed extra help… did she need them? Not a bit! She freed him completely on her own! 💪

He’ll stay with us for the next few weeks to complete treatment for his mange, before being safely released right back where he was found – hopefully a little more careful in future! 😉

Nathan at kindly picked him up for us and is now being cared for before he is strong enough to be released back into the wild 😊

Today’s the day… our hand-reared baby buzzard is finally free! 🥹

From the very first day he came into our care, we’ve watched him grow from a tiny, vulnerable chick into a strong, magnificent bird — and now he’s ready to take his place in the wild where he belongs.

We’ve chosen a soft release to give him the very best start. This method means he isn’t just turned loose all at once; he stays in a safe, sheltered space at the release site while he builds confidence, strengthens his flight, and learns to spot and catch his own food.

Even as he explores his new surroundings, we’ll still be providing regular support feedings. This way, he never goes hungry while he masters the hunting skills he needs — we gradually reduce the extra food as he becomes more independent, so the transition to wild life feels natural, not stressful.

Soft release gives birds like him the time and security to learn everything they need to survive on their own — bridging the gap between human care and total freedom.

It’s bittersweet to see him go, but knowing he’s flying high, healthy and prepared, makes every moment worth it. 💚

A stunning new arrival! 💛

Look at this beautiful heron… what a striking bird! 🤩

It was found unwell, underweight, and sadly unable to use one of its legs. A kind member of the public came to the rescue and brought it straight to Arun Vets, who looked after it until we at Horsham Wildlife Rescue were able to collect it.

It’s now safe and resting with us. We’ll be giving it plenty of food, care, and treatment to help gain strength, recover its leg, and hopefully get it back to where it belongs – wild and free, as soon as it’s well enough. 💪

Fingers crossed for this gorgeous bird — we’ll keep you updated on how it gets on! ✨

Little Oilver rescue story! 🐦

Look at this little guy now! 🥰 He was found covered in thick used motor oil after knocking over a container at a local garage — he was in such a sorry state and completely coated.

We gave him a gentle wash using Fairy washing up liquid to safely lift all that oil off. It worked a treat… but it also stripped away all his natural protective oils too! 😔 Even though he’s looking so much cleaner, brighter and happier already — he still has a little way to go.

He’s now safe and resting in our care, until his feathers are preened and coated in their natural oils, becoming fully waterproof again, and he’s strong and ready to fly free once more. 💪

What a brave little soul. We’ll keep you updated on his progress! ✨
