What a brilliant Sunday at The Local Social! 🍻🎪

I spent the day at The Wheatsheaf pub in Romford, raising awareness and much-needed funds for A New Beginning, an incredible local cat rescue run by a team of deeply dedicated volunteers.

The British weather did its absolute best to cause some drama—the wind was trying its hardest to blow our gazebos straight into the next borough! 🌬️🎪 But the Romford community didn't let a bit of a breeze stop them. It was a bustling and social event, well-attended by local residents and some amazing small, independent businesses.

Thanks to the generosity of everyone who stopped by to chat, support, and show some love for our feline friends, I was able to donate £50 directly to the rescue! 🐾

That donation is enough to cover the cost of neutering one cat, which is a small step in helping the rescue manage the local cat population.

It was so lovely meeting fellow cat lovers and local neighbours. A massive thank you to everyone who supported us, to those who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, and to The Wheatsheaf, 71 Club and Events By Ellie for hosting such a great community day.

If your cat is your absolute world, you’ve probably ticked off the premium food, the favourite toys, and the perfect scratching posts. But as we head into National Microchipping Month, there’s one vital box every cat parent needs to check.

The New Legalities 📜
As a quick reminder, microchipping for cats is no longer just a "good idea", it’s a legal requirement in the UK. All cats over 20 weeks old must be microchipped, and the details must be kept up to date on a registered database.

"But my cat is strictly an indoor cat!" 🏠
It’s easy to think indoor cats don't need to worry about this. But accidents happen: a delivery driver leaves the door open, or a window is unlatched on a hot summer day. Because indoor cats aren't used to the outside world, they can panic and run. If they are found, an up-to-date chip is their ticket home.

Check your details 📞
In my 10+ years working in animal welfare, I can’t tell you how many "stray" cats actually had a microchip. The tragedy? The phone number was disconnected, or the address belonged to a house the owner moved out of five years ago.

A Quick Checklist for This Month:

Is your cat chipped? If not, your local vet can do it in a matter of minutes.

Are your details current? If you’ve moved house or changed your mobile number recently, log into your database provider and update it. A chip is only as good as the information attached to it!

Meet Polly and Poppy: The two gorgeous house panthers ruling their kingdom! 🖤🐾

This week, I looked after these two beautiful girls for the first time. Their mum and dad were heading off on a well-deserved break, but they hadn't had great experiences with previous cat sitters, and so were understandably nervous about leaving the girls.

It takes a lot of courage to trust someone new with your absolute world. You aren't just worrying about food bowls being filled; you're wondering if anyone will notice their unique little quirks or give them genuine company.

Because of those past experiences, I wanted to do everything possible to show Poppy and Polly were in safe hands. Throughout their holiday, their mum received daily updates of Polly and Poppy purring, playing, and being doted on as if they were my own.
There is nothing better than knowing a client could finally relax and enjoy their trip, knowing their fur-babies were safe and happy.
