“Your dog doesn’t need more friends — they need better guidance.”

A lot of owners feel pressure to let their dog say hello to every dog they see, but constant interactions can actually create frustration, over arousal and even reactivity.

Good socialisation isn’t about your dog loving every dog they meet — it’s about teaching them to stay calm, neutral and focused on you whilst out in the world.

A dog who can:
✔ walk past another dog calmly
✔ ignore distractions
✔ check back in with their handler
✔ stay relaxed in busy environments

…is far more balanced than a dog who feels the need to greet everyone.

Not every dog wants dog friends, and that’s okay!
Confidence comes from clear guidance, structure and trust in their handler — not from endless social interactions.

Sometimes the best thing you can teach your dog is that: Not everything requires you to interact with it.

Your dog might not need more training… they might need more sleep 💤”

Overtired dogs don’t look sleepy - they often look hyper, ‘bitey’, and a bit out of control.

If your dog: Gets zoomies in the evening, Struggles to settle, Is more reactive or mouthy than usual, Can’t seem to switch off

There’s a good chance they’re overtired, not “naughty”.

Dogs need a LOT more sleep than most people realise: Puppies: up to 18–20 hours a day
Adult dogs: around 12–16 hours

Without enough rest, their stress levels rise — and behaviour often goes downhill.

Think of it like an overtired toddler… chaos!

What can you do?

Build in proper nap times during the day✔️ Create a calm, quiet space for them to rest✔️ Don’t rely on constant stimulation/exercise✔️ Learn when to stop and let them switch off

Rest is just as important as training.

A well-rested dog learns better, copes better, and behaves better.

Before you add more training… ask yourself:Is my dog getting enough sleep?

Importance of muzzle training:

Muzzle training isn’t just for “aggressive” dogs it’s a life skill every dog should have!

A properly introduced muzzle should be a positive, stress-free tool that helps keep your dog ( and others ) safe in unexpected situations. Emergencies happen, injuries, vet visits, or stressful environments can cause even the calmest dog to react out its character.

By training your dog to comfortably wear a muzzle before it’s ever needed, you’re setting them up for success.

Why muzzle training matters:
• Reduces stress during vet or grooming visits
• Keeps everyone safe in emergencies
• Helps dogs cope in overwhelming environments
• Prevents panic if a muzzle is suddenly required

💡The key? Make it positive, gradual, and an enjoyable experience.

Here you can see I have put a muzzle between the sofa cushions allowing him to put his face in when told ‘ muzz’. We are building up the time in which he keeps his face in place before told ‘ yes’ and rewarded. We have also started to add in ‘vet like manipulations’. He has to hold his face in position whilst this is happening.
