Almost all of my clients know of or have met Margot! She is my lovely little saluki x who I use as my stooge dog to help others who are getting used to recall around distractions or who struggle to focus with other dogs around.
She has a lot of patience and is neutral to stimuli such as dogs barking, motorbikes etc. She’s worth her weight in gold!

What do you take on a walk to make it more fun for you and your dog?
Here’s some stuff I keep in my car that I use on walks to make sure we engage in play and ensure I’m the most rewarding and interesting thing on our walks!

High value treats for recall and trick training🍭

Tug-E-Nuff lure that tap into my sighthounds desire to chase! Great for recall and satisfying their natural instincts! 🐆

A squeaky kong tennis ball on a rope that we use for retrievals and impulse control 🫷🏼

Another shorter lure! (M&M must have one each!) 🐆🐆

A rope toy we can stuff treats in for the journey home to help decompress them after an exciting walk. This way they know it’s time to switch off and have a nap when we get home! 😴

And finally Mongo’s all time favourite toy his foot ball he likes to throw around and he only has access to for productive play times! ⚽️

Happy Sunday! And what are Sundays for? Sleeping 😇

Conditioning a Settle mat and settle training is such a vital skill for your dog to learn! It helps them to have an off switch in all aspects of your life, from having people over, to the vet, to the perfect pub dog! As you can see Margot has gotten to the point where I can drop her coat and she counts that as a place to rest 🤣

Use your dogs natural instincts in your favour!

I find a lot of people getting frustrating at their spaniels need to sniff or sighthounds need to chase. Unfortunately, there is little to no changing their desire as it’s what they were bred to do! It’s like asking me not to talk about dogs! It’s near impossible!

Instead channel their natural behaviours to benefit both of you! For example, I use a brilliant toy from Tug-E-Nuff to tap into Mongo’s desire to chase as a way of recall and play!

I only use this toy with the aim of playing and practising recall/impulse control. That way the toy keeps its novelty value 😁

Luna:
Luna is a white Swiss shepherd and is my partners dog! I had never met one before and have absolutely fallen in love with her! I’m now a massive fan of the breed from being around Luna and meeting many at crufts over the years. We plan on getting another in the future! Luna is an amazing dog with a great temperament she’s so silly but also has a very good off switch! She loves the beach and her monkey teddies 🦧

I do use snuffle balls and lickit mats!
However, I do not believe they can replace a walk or meet your dog’s daily needs! They’re great additives to your dog’s day to day life but nothing can replace being outside and exploring with your dogs!

Margot:

Margy moo is a 6 year old saluki cross. We have been looking for a second dog for a few months and my friend tagged in a photo of Margot from Stockenchurch Dog Resue and the next day I put a deposit down on her in Feb 2020 just before the start of lockdown! I’m so glad we did! She’s very different from Mongo and definitely has her opinions! But after putting in lots of hard work and consistent training she is my ideal dog and I’m so glad I can take her anywhere! She even comes with me to help in 121s (she gets paid in lots of treats)!

She knows so many tricks and will show off a bit of sausage and is a joy to be around! I’m sure there will be lots of Margot showing off on this page she is a diva after all 🤪

Mongo is my black 7 year old lurcher!
We got Mongo from Mayhew when I was 16 years old after years and years of begging for a dog! I have always loved sighthounds so I was over the moon to bring home my little 5 month old puppy!
It was quite a learning curve raising such an energetic and intelligent puppy. My interest in dog training sparked from the day Mongo came home! He has since been diagnosed with syringomyelia which was difficult to manage however, we are getting there and adapting his life to this chronic condition has been a priority to ensure he still lives a fulfilled life that suits his needs 🥰
He’s also super cuddly and goofiest boy around !
