BIOACTIVE ENCLOSURES
Why not set up your own bioactive enclosure for your pet?
Many herpetologists are now setting up their reptile enclosures using a bioactive system, which is a self-maintaining eco-system created using a range of specific invertebrates that feed on the waste material from your reptile, as well as any spilt or uneaten food.
This means less cleaning out for you, and less stress for your reptile as there is minimal interference and plenty of natural hides to use.
For tropical species, if the enclosure is also planted, there is a perfect humid environment as the plants are sprayed each day, also creating some natural water droplets for drinking.
Using plants can be a useful indicator of the ‘health’ of your bio-active enclosure, as strong plant growth shows that the waste products are being effectively broken down into nutrients that the plants can then absorb and use as food.
We sell a range of tropical woodlice as well as springtails and millipedes to help build your bioactive enclosure, as well as all the substrates, leaf litter, moss, plants and other accessories that you can add to help build an effective 'waste disposal' unit for your set-up.
