Sorry all been a bit quiet on here. Duchess and Shantih as well have decided to call her are doing well.
Abscesses still an issue for Shantih but getting there.
Teeth have been done, feet done again and backs checked over.
All in all progressing well, pleased to see people (and dinner!) and now finally allowed out on full time grass. Both still get tired easily but love a burst of freshness!
Still awaiting passports being released be it originals or copies.
Vet checks and vaccines ready to start now they are stronger and they have been able to be wormed.

3 weeks in now, abscesses still making very lame horses but draining well.
Both eating and drinking well, enjoying a bit more movement and much more alert.
Duchess even managed a few strides of canter and a bucket this morning!
Far from out of the woods but positive steps.

This morning Duchess actually whinnied at seeing me (miss no name is already very vocal) at her breakfast and actually cantered down the paddock. Seems much more alert looking over the stable door and generally more rested 🥰
Dentist booked, nutritionist tomorrow farrier wednesday.

Feed number 6 of the day, and some jimjams. Little and often to prevent refeeding syndrome. Slow and steady wins the race.
It's tempting to throw as much food as possible at Duchess, but to do so is worse for her than being restricted at this moment in time.
She is rugged to keep her warm and keep damp off her, plenty of fluids, movement and small amounts of hay and feed at regular intervals.
She is doing a lot of sleeping, expect exhausted and first time she is being able to have proper sleep.
Every hour is a blessing.

A little bit of freedom, an hour with some sunshine on their backs and first leg stretch in who knows how long.
Can't over do it hence on a mostly bald paddock as I sure when last had grass.

How do you go from this to this in a couple of short years 😭 We will get you back to where you were beautiful girl!

And here we have
Duchess of Ripon
14yrs old, bred at least two lovely foals.
Very sweet but extremely shut down and emaciated.
Keeping her warm and lots of small regular amounts of feed.
Will be vet, worming, teeth and feet to do but she needs a few days to build some strength up.
