Virginia Emmerson 5yo Juno looking absolutely gorgeous yesterday! We had a very beneficial session with Jonty Evans Eventing, learning and improving all the time. Thank you Halesworth & District Riding Club: Events and Training for organising!
I’m really enjoying the journey with this lovely young horse, and feeling very grateful for the opportunity!

Pirate King made the 2am absolutely worth it yesterday! His first regional final and he absolutely bossed it with a beautiful DR, and then double clear to finish on his DR score to come 7th!! He was absolutely on form all day and just didn’t miss a beat. We both especially enjoyed the XC! 😍🏇🏼❤️
A massive thank you to his owner, Mrs Slater, for allowing me this incredible opportunity and to my super best friend/groom/back up driver/cheerleader, Immy, who I wouldn’t have been able to do yesterday without.

(KP also went, but unfortunately had a mild bout of colic while we were there. Other than being sad he didn’t get to go XC, he is happy and well ❤️‍🩹)

Yesterday, I took Mrs Slater’s Pirate King and my Krazy Paving to Little Downham for their first 100 ode. It was part of Pony Club area eventing, and in true PC style, the XC was a strong track!

Both boys posted good dressage scores, and Pirate King followed this by a fantastic clear SJ.
Onto XC and he jumped SO well! He stayed straight as an arrow, and made grew in confidence the more he did. One tiny green moment at a tricky water fence where he just didn’t get enough time to read it properly, but no issues on second attempt. Despite this, he finished 5th!! I’m so thrilled with him, still in his first season of eventing and he’s showing so much talent and love for the game!

KP’s dressage was so much improved, finally no mention of tension! SJ was going well until I over egged the ‘ride forward and don’t pull’ and we had a fence, followed by another as he got (understandably!!) upset.
XC was incredible… he just flew. Straight through the direct routes and we just had such fun!! So much so that I forgot to look at my watch, and had to deploy the parachutes on the final stretch home because we were about to get a speeding fine…! So he finished clear, well inside the time to place 2nd!!🥈
I’m in awe of my little horse - he loves XC as much as I do and I can’t believe how easy he made it feel yesterday.

2nd & 5th in their first 100 ode! Feeling incredibly lucky to have these horses in my life!

Krazy Paving went showing! Nothing like throwing them in at the deep end, so in an attempt to let him settle in an atmosphere where he’s not really asked to do much, we headed to the Royal Norfolk Show.
He warmed up beautifully, then saw the white rails and thought he was late for the 2:30pm at Chelmsford… 🏇🏼 When he settled, he felt absolutely awesome and so rideable! He got some really positive and lovely comments from the judges, who thought he was a Bonny little chap ☺️
65 races is no mean feat, and the fact that he just jumps into everything I throw at him with such enthusiasm and character is one of the reasons I love him. He’s a great example of how versatile racehorses can be, even when they’ve raced a lot.

It’s not all about the ex racehorses!

I am absolutely delighted with Virginia Emmerson lovely 5yo Juno on Saturday. He has only been to a handful of outings, and he scored an impressive 70.86% (minus 2 for a silly rider detour!) in the Intro!🥈
He is so willing and he took it all in his stride, despite it all being new and sometimes overwhelming for him. First time traveling on the lorry and he had to stand and wait for the others to do their tests, which he did without a murmur. 🧡

RoR National Eventing Championships - what a day!!! I am absolutely over the moon with both horses. The atmosphere was ELECTRIC which definitely took its toll in the first two phases, but they both completely stormed the XC, being two of only 6 inside the time!
Mrs Slater’s Pirate King finished 9th, and my Krazy Paving finished 12th! P was the horse with the most races under his belt, and Peter was the 4th most raced horse in the section, and beaten today by horses that had run a handful of times, or not at all.
Both horses raced on the flat, neither of them had jumped a stick before they began their second careers, and today was only Peter’s 3rd BE and first season of eventing, and P’s 4th BE.
I am so, so proud of them both. They really showcase how versatile ex racehorses can be with the correct guidance, and if these two aren’t reason enough not to overlook horses that have had long racing careers, I don’t know what is!
Long drive home now, and I couldn’t have done today without my wonderful friends, Immy and Francesca. ❤️

Home from a fantastic day at Ickworth with the boys in the 90 😊 The ground was absolutely perfect and the XC was a true PC track with lots of questions. A lot of hard work had clearly gone into making the going so good.

Mrs Slater’s Pirate King did a fantastic dressage to lead the section on 28.5. A really unlucky rail cost us the win, he finished 🥈 😁

My Krazy Paving had an unsettled DR warm up resulting in a cricket score mark! One of those things. BUT he followed this with a beautiful double clear, jumping in a super rhythm the whole way to rise up the ranks to come 5th on his dressage score 😁

Just thrilled with both of these lovely horses, and feeling very lucky to have the opportunity to partner them in their second careers ☺️

A massive thank you to everyone who helps and supports us, Worming Wisely and my wonderful friends who always help with the pony swaps and close times!

Also, a huge well done to the Waveney Harriers PC gang, who all had fabulous results today! Great to see you guys enjoying it 😁

Pirate King and Krazy Paving both had super runs at the brilliant new Tetworth Horse Trials - what an event! Huge atmosphere and perfect ground 👌
Mrs Slater’s PK is growing in confidence with every outing, improving all the time and thoroughly enjoying this eventing malarkey! A sweet, rhythmical DR, good SJ which was much improved and an awesome, confident clear XC. He gives an awesome feeling out there!

My KP was on fire, a tense but accurate DR, hugely improved SJ for a really unlucky rail, and an absolute blast XC… so much so, that I missed a fence! Sack the jockey, but KP is non the wiser and finished what he thought was an epic clear XC!

Marathon of a day with a 2:45am alarm, but these horses make it so worth it. The eventing community is awesome and a massive thank you to Francesca and Immy who helped me around their own competition days!

Both horses have now qualified for the RoR Eventing Championships in May! 😁💚

What a beautiful end to the Easter Bank Holiday!
It’s not always about the ex racers, I am loving getting to see more of my coaching clients now that the clocks have changed!
Immy & Chance and Eboni & Sirius both had a super time at Stratford Hills yesterday, two lovely combinations who both learnt lots and are enjoying getting prepped for the event season ahead 😁
