Dogs can't sniff and pant at the same time!
Sniffing and panting use different breathing patterns, so when your dog is busy cooling themselves down by panting, they're not able to gather scent information as effectively.
This is one reason why hot weather can be more challenging for our dogs. Not only can they become physically uncomfortable, but they may also miss out on one of their favourite activities—exploring the world through their nose! 🌍🐾
On warmer days, consider shorter walks during cooler hours, plenty of water breaks, and enrichment activities at home to help keep your dog happy and comfortable.
Remember, for dogs, sniffing isn't just fun—it's how they learn about their environment, process information, and enjoy their walks.
