How to Help Your Dog Get Used to Fireworks and Loud Noises

1. Create a Safe Space

Make a quiet, comfortable area for your dog.

Use their favorite bed, blanket, or toys.

Play calming music to block outside noise.

2. Play Firework Sounds Softly

Find firework or thunder sounds online.

Play the sounds at a very low volume while your dog is calm.

3. Reward Calm Behavior

Give your dog treats or praise when they stay calm during the sounds.

Stop the sounds if your dog shows fear (like shaking or hiding).

Start again later at a lower volume.

4. Increase the Volume Slowly

Over a few days or weeks, raise the volume a little at a time.

Always reward calm behavior with treats or their favorite toy.

Never rush – go at your dog’s pace.

5. Practice Often

Repeat these steps daily for short sessions (5–10 minutes).

Stop if your dog looks scared and try again another time.

6. Use Real-Life Practice

When a quiet firework or thunder happens outside, stay calm.

Praise and reward your dog for staying relaxed.

7. Stay Positive

Never scold or force your dog to stay near loud sounds.

Make the experience fun and safe.
