🐾 Is your dog friendly with every dog it meets? Most owners think that is a brilliant thing. And sometimes it is. But the truth is a little more layered than that.

Dogs are individuals. Some genuinely thrive with regular interaction and need it built into their routine. Others find it overwhelming, stressful, or simply unnecessary. There is no single rule that applies to every dog, and applying one is where things often start to go wrong.

What we work towards at AlphaB is neutrality. A dog that can walk past another dog calmly, ignore them completely when needed, and only engage when the moment is truly right. Roughly 80% neutral encounters, 20% interaction. Not a restriction. A goal. It is the difference between a dog that is socially confident and one that is socially dependent.

When interactions do happen they need to be right for both dogs involved. Sometimes that means pairing dogs with a similar temperament and energy, and that works brilliantly. Other times the better match is a dog that brings out what the other is lacking. A steadier, more confident dog alongside a more anxious one can do more good than pairing two nervous dogs together. It depends entirely on the individual dogs, their full personalities, their social skills, and how they are likely to complement each other in that moment. There is no single formula. Getting it right takes genuine knowledge of both dogs and a willingness to look beyond surface behaviour.

Rest matters just as much. Dogs need time separated from others, time to decompress and simply be a dog without the pressure of a social environment. That regulated downtime is not a luxury. It is a core part of how dogs process experience and stay balanced.

This is one reason we tend to favour group walks over daycare for many dogs. A well-run group walk has structure, movement, and a handler actively overseeing each dog as an individual. Daycare, for all its appeal, often means dogs have free and constant access to each other for hours at a time, with little enforced separation or individual rest. For some dogs that is absolutely fine. For many it quietly builds over-arousal, frustration, and habits that are genuinely difficult to unpick.

Our Day Train service is another option worth considering. Whether half day or full day, it is built around your dog as an individual. Time for socialisation and neutrality work, scheduled downtime, and general training woven throughout. Not a room full of dogs left to their own devices, but a structured, supervised day that is actually working towards something.

Every dog deserves an environment that works for them, not just one that works in general.

NEW TEAM MEMBER

🐾 Meet Kiko! 🐾

We're excited to introduce the newest member of the team Kiko, my working-line Golden Retriever puppy! 💛

Kiko is joining us with a very important future role ahead of her. As she grows and develops, she'll be training to become one of our stooge dogs, helping other dogs build confidence, improve social skills, and work through their training journeys in a safe and positive way.

Alongside this, Kiko will be growing up as a much-loved pet and we'll also be exploring the world of competition obedience and a variety of dog sports with her. Our aim is to develop her into a versatile sport dog while ensuring she remains the happy, stable, and reliable dog we know she'll become.

She's already showing us just how clever she is and has settled in brilliantly. We're looking forward to watching her grow and sharing her progress with you all.

Keep an eye on our page for regular Kiko updates, training adventures, and plenty of puppy photos! 🐶✨

There's a reason owners travel from across the country to train with us.

At AlphaB Dog Training, we don't do one-size-fits-all. Every dog is different (different personality, different history, different needs) and every training journey we take on reflects that. Whether you're navigating reactivity, working on recall, building confidence in a nervous dog, or simply want a well-mannered companion by your side, we build a plan around your dog and your life.

Our team offers everything from private one-to-one sessions and walk and train, to group classes, exposure walks, boarding, day training, residential programmes, canine conditioning, and nutritional advice. We work with dogs of all breeds, at all stages of life, and we're with you every step of the way.

Did you know Dalmatians are born completely white?

Every single spot you see on an adult Dalmatian develops after birth — usually beginning to appear within the first few weeks of life and continuing to fill in over the following months. No two Dalmatians have the same pattern, making every single one unique.

It's one of those facts that sounds too good to be true, but it's just how their genetics work. The pigment cells responsible for those distinctive spots take time to migrate and settle into the skin and coat after birth.

Dalmatians are energetic, intelligent dogs with a strong need for both physical exercise and mental stimulation. They thrive with clear structure, consistent guidance, and owners who are willing to put the time in — and when that foundation is there, they're remarkable dogs to work with.

Which breed fact has genuinely surprised you? Drop it in the comments — we'd love to hear them.

Today, this boy turns five years old. 🎂

Bowser wasn’t a dog I chose. He came into my life through someone else’s decision, and if you’d told me back then that he’d become one of the most important beings in my world, I’m not sure I’d have believed you. But here we are.

Five years in, and I genuinely cannot imagine life without him. He is enormous, daft, and completely irreplaceable — and every single day I am so glad he’s mine.

His birthday is always a day of two feelings for me. Pure joy that he exists, and a quiet ache that comes with knowing his elbow dysplasia and his build mean that my focus with him has always been on quality of life rather than quantity. That’s a weight I carry, but I carry it because I love him — and because he deserves every good day I can give him.

Five brilliant years, Bowser. I hope with everything I have that there are many, many more to come. Happy birthday, big lad. 🐾

If your dog needs more than a weekly session can offer, our Board and Train programme could be exactly what you've been looking for.

Your dog will live with your trainer, and receives intensive, hands-on training every single day. We work around your dog's individual needs — whether that's building solid foundations like recall, lead walking, and impulse control, or working through more complex challenges such as reactivity, separation anxiety, resource guarding, or fear-based behaviour.

We offer four programme lengths to suit your dog's starting point and goals:

⭐ *2 weeks (from £1,400)* — ideal for puppies or dogs needing a training top-up
⭐ *4 weeks (from £2,600)* — foundational training, emotional regulation, and household manners
⭐ *6 weeks (from £3,650)* — adds behavioural troubleshooting including reactivity and anxiety
⭐ *8 weeks (from £4,700)* — our most comprehensive programme, for the most complex cases

Finance options are available through Clearpay, so the programme that's right for your dog doesn't have to wait.

Every placement is tailored — there's no one-size-fits-all here. If you'd like to find out whether Board and Train is a good fit, head to the website to book or get in touch with any questions.
