Catching up with an old friend 🤎

I had the pleasure of a pet sit with Sally today as her folks enjoyed a day out.

Sally used to be one of my regular walking crew a few years ago, but as she's now in her twilight years, and has sadly lost her sight, her needs have changed, so rather than going for an energetic walk, I visited her at home for some quiet 1 to 1 company (and plenty of treats)

It was so lovely to see her again, and to still be in her life from time to time, even after all these years 🤎

Meet 'Marvin', 22 years young, no that's not a typo - Marvin really is 22 !!

Senior Kitizens often need a bit more gentle care and attention to make life and everyday activities easier for them, if your golden oldie is starting to struggle there are a few things you can do to help.

🩺 A general health check with their vet is essential for advice about arthritic/dental pain management and assessments for any underlying health conditions

🍽 mush up/soften food to make it easier for sensitive chompers, delicate mouths, or gummy bears to manage

🍗 mix a little tuna or flaked chicken through their food to encourage eating if their appetite decreases due to reduced sense of taste or smell

🍽 raise feeding and water bowls if arthritis makes eating at floor level difficult or uncomfortable.

🛋 make plenty of low level cosy places they can easily access, if reduced mobility causes difficulty in jumping on their favourite chair or bed.

🐾 older cats can become confused or disoriented more easily - make sure their microchip details are up to date, if you have an outdoorsy cat consider a curfew or installing a catio to keep them safe

🪮 some gentle hands on assistance with grooming using a soft brush can help keep their coat tidy and comfortable if their ability to self groom becomes reduced

🚽 provide a low level litter tray they can easily step in and out of

There's no place like home, especially when you're a cat 🏡.

This week, I've enjoyed caring for all these gorgeous faces, helping then stay happy at home whilst their humans were away.

When you choose home visits for your cat, you're choosing cat happiness and contentment, and enabling them to continue enjoying the little things that make them feel safe and relaxed.

What a lovely afternoon at the Abbeyfield Privett House fun dog show 🐕

Judging isn't as easy as it sounds with these gorgeous faces - I mean, how on earth do you choose 'Best in Show' or 'Prettiest Bitch' or 'Most Handsome Boy' ... they're all so gorgeous ! 🧡

It was lovely to see dogs of all personalities and sizes taking part, and most importantly, having fun with their humans 🧡

A big thankyou to those who took part, and to Abbeyfield for inviting me to judge 🌻

A little update from me 🧡

I was due to return to work on 4th August, but sadly, on my return from holiday, I experienced a bereavement and needed a little more time away than I had originally planned.

I’m now back at work, and I just wanted to say a huge thank you to all my lovely clients for your understanding and kindness while I’ve taken this unexpected extra time. Thank you for arranging alternative care and being flexible with rescheduling meet & greets.

Being back with my furry clients is really helping, and they do say the best therapist has fur and four paws. I can confirm this to be true, after "cutie patootti' Pepper, the 4 month old kitten gave me the sweetest kitchen floor cuddles yesterday 🧡

Abbeyfield Independent Living is celebrating its 70th anniversary with garden parties and get togethers taking place across their homes 🎉

Come along to Abbeyfield Privett House for cake and refreshments, and enter your dog in their FREE Fun Dog Show 🐕

Enter your pooch in fun classes such as:

🐶 Most Handsome Boy
🐶 Prettiest Bitch
🐶 Waggiest Tail
🐶 Cutest Puppy (up to 1 year)
🐶 Most Gorgeous Golden Oldie (8+ years)
🐶 Best Trick
🐶 Dog the Judge Would Like to Take Home
🐶 Dog Most Like Their Owner
🐶 Best Rescue
🐶 Best in Show

There will be rosettes for winners, and a trophy and goodie bag for the Best in Show.

Of course they're all winners, and I have the honour of judging and its not going to be easy !

HOUSEKEEPING:
🚗 Its staff parking only at Privett House, however, parking is available at Queens Parade shops which is almost opposite.

🐕‍🦺The garden area at Abbeyfield is not secure - dogs must be kept on leads and be comfortable being around other dogs

☀️The dog show will not go ahead if it's too hot.

I have a few kitty clients who require a very 'hands off' approach to their care, so I thought it might be worth a proper mention ⭐️

🐈 QUIET CAT VISITS 🐈

A service for timid, nervous, or independent cats who are happiest with gentle, unobtrusive care 🧡

During each visit, I'll ensure they have fresh food and water, a clean litter tray, feeding area, as well as a visual welfare check if possible, without disturbing them unnecessarily 🐈‍⬛

I'll move around quietly and calmly, respecting their need for space, whilst discreetly checking everything appears normal with their food intake and litter tray deposits (if they use a littertray) 🧚‍♀️

If they choose to come and say hello, that's lovely (and yippee 🥳) but if they choose to remain hidden, I'll leave them be 👀

My priority is that they feel safe and secure in the comfort of their own home, and although there won't be any photos, I'll send you updates to let you know that they have been cared for, even if they've remained elusive 💝
