We've seen a huge increase in lameness across the board in the last six weeks, due to the heat.
With cows standing longer, not wanting to lie down in beds/in the field, we're seeing a lot more bruising & Ulceration than usual, also partly to do with dry fields and stony tracks.
IDG's are getting more irritated than usual on sand systems and a slight increase in white line lesions.
The best thing we can do is preventative trimming beforehand, keeping up with footbathing on farm and treating animals promptly, however this is not always possible as we can't really predict what the weather is going to do one year to the next.
We're a hoof trimming team based in the south west covering Devon, wilts, Somerset, Gloucester and surrounding areas - get in touch to book in any trims required.
