Meet Wookiee wearing his new canine Milo vagal nerve stimulator!
Earlier this year, Wookiee began having seizures that were frightening and life-changing for him and his family. They had already lived through epilepsy with another much-loved dog, so they knew how difficult it can be.
This summer, Wookiee became one of the first patients at the Glasgow Seizure Clinic to receive the new Milo Vagal Nerve Stimulator (VNS). The surgery itself was quick and straightforward, and he recovered without any problems.
It’s still early days; these devices take time to adjust, and we need to wait and see how well it helps Wookiee in the long term. Already, though, his family have noticed some encouraging changes: he’s more engaged, playing again, and back to enjoying his walks.
Thanks to a collaboration with the Epilepsy Clinic at Langford Vets Small Animal Referral Hospital Langford Vets University of Bristol we’re pleased to be able to offer the Milo VNS as a treatment option for dogs with epilepsy, and we look forward to learning more about how it can help our patients over time.
His owner told us:
💬 ‘Early days with the VNS but already I am happy with the progress. I can’t recommend the VNS enough. It improves the life of many epileptic dogs.’
