🐑 Flock Health Club Summer Meeting 🐑

We were delighted to host this seasons flock club meeting on Barry Latimer’s farm 🐏

Topics covered included reflecting and discussing how the lambing period went covering the trials and tribulations and the successes that came with it. Alongside this there was a practical master class on body condition scoring and the importance of this at all times during the year 🗓️

💩🪱 Let’s Talk Worms🪱💩

It’s the time of the year you need to be thinking about worm burdens, dosing and resistance in your livestock. Three Valleys Irvinestown and Fivemiletown offer a faecal worm count service to quantify worm numbers on your farm 🔬

What information can you gain from completing a faecal egg count? ⁉️
- What worms are present at the minute?
- Is dosing necessary and which product to use?
- Is dosing effective?
- Are there any signs of a resistance issue?

The machine tests for -
- Nematodirus
- Strongyles
- Strongyloides
- Tapeworm
- Coccidiosis

Tips On Taking A Pooled Sample 💩
- Ensure dung is fresh
- Randomly select samples
- Take at least 10 individual samples of similar size to make a good pooled sample
- Place in a clean labelled container/glove
- Bring into the surgery ASAP or keep refrigerated and bring in within 24 hours

Once samples have been ran our vets will contact farmers to discuss an individual treatment plan based on the results and on farm history. We recommend doing samples every 4-6 weeks depending on individual farm set-ups/protocols.

We just want to say thank you for bearing with us during storm Eowyn!! 💨

Also we would like to welcome Nobu, our new Graduate Vet who has joined our team in fivemiletown, we know you will all give her a warm welcome 😊

As many of you are aware there is no stock of heptavac P plus vaccine for sheep, we hope to have various sizes available by March.

Another reminder about our selekt pump servicing day on Monday 17th February in both practices (free of charge). 🕙 Fivemiletown 10am- 1pm. 🕑 Irvinestown 2pm-4pm.
